That looks like a ‘modified’ forwarder for when they’re on harvesting trees.
Am I close??
The end of a long haul posting my first pic !
All I had to do was constrain the image on my I phone ,why didn’t I do that in first place?

No Goldfinger it’s a purpose built chipper, on a forwarder chassis, he’ll of a machine gobbles trees and brash in no time apparently, I’ve never actually seen it in action.I’ll try and put a closer view pic on now that I’m a fully inducted poster !
I know your truck and Mark the boss - one of your chaps lives on my street and a work colleague is married to another of your chaps.

Quite right , but sometimes they get it wrong, so just a bit of local knowledge helps especially at 16’3" high !
And I’ve bin known to disobey orders
Hi, it’s good to do a bit of prior planning for sure.
We were never allowed to deviate off route though. If the Highways/police had routed you under a 10 foot bridge, we weren’t allowed to find another way, had to ring the police and tell them, wait for them to re-route us.
Same when roads are closed: Don’t deviate, sit and wait 'til the roads re-opened.
Maybe that was just company policy (John Dickinson).
That said, a few times when the motorway/carriageway has been closed where we’re working, if an abnormal load came along we’d make an effort to get them through. Not always possible depending where the casualty vehicle was or where our wreckers were set up, but if we could move to let them through we would.
Last time we did this was on the A66 by Ravensworth, tipper loaded with coal on it’s side in the field. As there was a car involved further up, the road was closed both ways so we could work safely. Low loader came along (routed) with a D6 on it’s back, we shifted the wreckers out the way to let him through. It was either that or he sat and waited 3 or 4 hours while we did our thing.
Hi to you Cieranc, I hear what you say about deviating from given route, but I’m always wary of the unclassified roads they send me on .You can’t beat a bit of local knowledge so I use you lads on the forum to find out.
I’ve got the same machine to move to Manchester from Stang on Thursday I’ve got the MO route now it sends me A66. A685. M6. M61. A6 and a B road to New City road.
I’ve got a low bridge map in the cab so I’ll check it out on that, anybody know the A585 between A66 and M6 for overhead obstructions ?
Thanks Jim.
PS I love this armchair and I pad travelling much easier than real thing!
A685 has a 17 ton limit and a 14 ft 6 in railway bridge, I think you need a quick word with your routers
Just carry on to Penrith.
Cheers Pip, talk about falling at the first fence ! I’m not even allowed on the road that is gonna slice my load in half !
Nice to know competent traffic routers are working for us isn’t it?
Thanks again Pip Penrith it is .
Jim
You wont know me but the lad on my street last name is Loony and I known Brian Beecroft.
Saw you today with a gritter on filling up in Harrogate.

Yes, that’s not a good route at all!
Though if you’re under 14’6", I’d go the route they said. Brough-Penrith-Tebay is over 20 miles longer than Brough-Kirkby-Tebay.
Only thing to watch is there’s a couple of girt long (down) hills, Ravenstonedale being the longest. Good retarder needed if running heavy.
And if you should get pulled, well that’s the route they sent you!
