Going to a new place

does it put you on edge going to a new place to tip?

No.

When i worked for GBA most of the jobs would be to places we had never collected from or tipped at before, i personally saw it as a bit of a challenge, and it kept the job interesting , unlike some driving jobs where you only go to the same places over & over again, even though they wanted everything tipped yesterday, But it was a case of the load will get there when it gets there, better a little late (normally due to their poor planning)than not at all,

No not on edge,id say more cautious and alert because its new to me,i see it as something different nowadays ,its experience and more knowledge of new places to bore other drivers with when they ask for directions :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: cant beat a driver who can draw a good map on a piece of a4

The only time it puts me on edge is when the gaffer sends us on 8 wheeler GRS jobs to sites in an artic!!! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Love going to new places, always told them it was my first time and folk are usually very helpful…Good icebreaker and it makes the tip far more enjoyable in my experience…People usually want to be helpful. :sunglasses:

Love it, also love it when my job changes en route! Seriously, it’s not a ■■■■ take, I genuinely do love stuff like that, it’s one of the reasons I got into this job as I despise predictability in my life.

+1, I love it, I don’t own a satnav either:)

One of the the I liked most when I did weekend agency work; the ‘testing’ yourself with a new scenario. Only fully enjoyed though after a successful day! At least when it goes wrong it adds to your fund of anecdotes for later on

I get new places every day, if its some where I suspect it may be a bit iffy like having Farm, Mill or Grove in the address  I have a quick look on google street view

No I love it. My mental map gets bigger everyday.

I do a mixture of residential and regular yard deliveries everyday. While it nice to get a run that is all regular places, ie you know where you’re going, it would be dull as ■■■■ doing it everyday. Those residential ones break up the monotony, if you get one that’s tighter than a ducks arse it can be fun trying to solve the problem!

A- b for me every day,I know where to have my breaks,I no there’s no bridges/ weight limits too worry about, know the people there.
And more than anything else I don’t get paid enough too start thinking for myself.

I would find it boring to do the same runs all the time so a bit of variety adds a bit of interest to the job. we do residential jobs some times, I love the expression on peoples faces when you drive an artic through their housing estate

I always liked that any new driver at the Palletforce Hub in Derby gets a big “VIRGIN DRIVER” sign for his window.

I go to new places a lot, some of them being building sites in the middle of city centres. They usually have me a bit anxious because I’m sort of going on directions givin over the fone by a builder and then when I get there Im usually faced with a challenging reverse into the site with 40+ tons on trying to avoid all the obstacles that they have lying all over the place. Thankfully I don’t get them too often and usually it’s builders merchants I go to but some of them can be a pain to get in and out of when they are busy.

No, if it did I’d be a nervous wreck. How long have you been driving? I ask as I remember when younger .sometimes being apprehensive about new stuff but it soon went.

Same here, I dont know what I’m doing beyond the next drop or collection. And thats just how I like it.

How can you be nervous these days when you have Google Maps on your phone? You can practically see exactly where your going, what your looking for & what you’ll be up against before you even start the engine.

Did a shop for the first time the other night, looked it up, used satellite view to see where the yard is, saw it’d be a reverse off the road so approached so it’d be on my good side. Doddle!

What he said ^^^^

I think as a new driver it really wouldn’t be normal to be a little apprehensive about visiting new places, unless it’s all RDC work, if you’ve seen one you’ve seen em all :grimacing:

I drive nights so I’ve visited some tiny yards in complete darkness but as already mentioned you soon get used to it

yeah not been driving long,i just think the worst on the way but most of the time i have loads of room to play with when i get there
