Going On Strike

del949:

T.G.W.U and drivers rep for Trafford Park! And one from Appleton

being pedantic, there isn’t such a union anymore.
you can be certain that he does not have union sanction to go and “strike break”

as for “if you don’t work for stobarts why concern yourself”
A company as large as Stobarts has a knock on effect on most UK drivers, so in the long run it does affect most of you eventually.
I wonder what the response will be if UK drivers go on strike and seek help from their Irish counterparts?

Unite the union! Sorry :grimacing: he’s a fully paid up member of T.G.W.U! 63years old

It doesn’t matter who you work for, you’ll do as you’re told  :grimacing:

happysack:

You have to laugh … You are just the type of driver Eddie wants, get signed up to become a Franchisee as quick as you can!

Here’s the facts:-
You live in Scotland …?
Flight to & from Dublin. = £100 per week
Park your car at Scottish Airport. = £50 per week
Taxis, Food, Digs, in Ireland, as you haven’t a car there, remember = £100 per week
You may need a quilt, etc. To sleep in a lorry if there’s one available.
So out of pocket expenses to cover all this & anything else, say = £50 per week
So far you have spent £300 to earn £300 after tax … You Will Go Far My Son! PRICELESS.

Mr caboverdave, my post was tongue in cheek. I wouldn’t want to go over there, plus I already work for Stobarts.

From what I’ve heard nedflanders, you are right.
I have a mate who drives for a Bakery in Dublin somewhere and he reckons that Stobarts wages are the same as you would get tossing burgers out in McDonalds, you get a uniform there too.

It’s bad in this day and age when you are classed as professional and you are on a minimum wage near enough.

As for your so called work mates going over to Eire and practically taking bread off of your table, well it’s disgusting!

So drivers who volunteer to go over there to drive are effectively cutting their work mates throats and it is so wrong!

If UK drivers go there to work then Stobarts will need to notify the Irish taxes office i would imagine, wonder if they will?

Doubt it I think they would take international trampers to and from Ireland.

If the drivers got on the ferry in their trucks to do the work, then yes it could be subbing within the Stobarts group. If the drivers however get on the ferry or plane to go work out of an Irish Stobart depot then Stobarts will indeed need to notify the Irish revenue services. If Stobarts does send drivers over a simple FOI request would reveal if they have notified the revenue or not.

I don’t think the issue of stobart drivers paying tax in Ireland if they were to work here for a week or two would bother the revenue as I presume that the drivers would pay tax&ni in the UK.

I WONDER IF EDDIE’S ■■■■ & TRAILERS SQUADRON WILL BREAK THIS STRIKE, MAYBE HIS IRISH MINUMUM WAGE LADS WILL COME ACROSS AND DO IT!

Petrol Tanker Drivers To Be Balloted For Strike Action
Thousands of tanker drivers who deliver fuel to petrol forecourts are to be balloted for strikes in a row over safety and terms and conditions.
Unite said its members working for seven major fuel distribution firms will vote in the coming weeks on whether to launch a campaign of industrial action.
The union warned that strikes could hit petrol supplies at supermarkets, garages and airports across the country.
Voting will start next week among 2,000 drivers, who account for 90% of those supplying petrol to UK forecourts.
Unite said there had been “unrelenting attacks” on drivers’ terms and conditions, adding that it had been trying to establish a forum to agree industry-wide best practice on issues such as safety and training.
“Tanker drivers work in an increasingly fragmented, pressurised industry with concerns building that corners are being cut on safety and training in a bid to squeeze profits and win contracts,” the union said.
“Drivers face growing job insecurity as a result of the contract merry-go-round and a beat-the-clock culture has flourished with drivers forced to meet ever shorter delivery deadlines.”
Matt Draper, Unite national officer said: "For over a year we have strived to talk some sense into this industry but they have shown no genuine interest in bringing stability to the supply of this vital national commodity.
"This is not about pay - this is about ensuring that high safety and training standards are maintained so that our communities are safe. It is about a simple measure, the creation of an industry-wide bargaining forum. It is about bringing fairness and stability back to an industry that is now controlled by faceless global giants.
“This is a clear case of a predatory industry putting its profits and greed before the wider well-being. This workforce is now saying enough is enough.”
Unite said it will serve notice of the ballot for strike action on Wincanton, DHL, Hoyer, BP, J.W Suckling, Norbert Dentressangle and Turners.

I would hazzard a guess that Edward Stobart, God Rest Him, must be turning in his grave if he ever got to see the way some of those knob heads on this programme performed!

My buddy went on to tell me Stobart said to the drivers that they could be expected to break picket lines so to take that into consideration, he then went on to tell me that a Union Rep: had elected to go … F.F.S. What a piece of nonsense this fellow must be!

Edward stobarts still alive, eddie the son died at 56, Williams the brother who runs it!

Now then, there were more than one drivers reps who went on the jaunt for a few nights on the black stuff and they’ll tell you they didn’t break any picket lines! BUT they went with the intention of BREAKING the picket lines! :unamused:  :bulb:  :imp: on the other hand what was sinn fein doing there protesting? Mmmmm makes you wonder! :grimacing:

A lot of Irish people go to the SinnFein office in Dublin, to ak for help for all sorts of reasons. Rowdy kids, noisy neighbours. Government issues. It ain’t ALL about the “other stuff”.

Sinn Féin TD summoned to court over participation in industrial action
Sinn Féin TD for Dublin North West Dessie Ellis has been served with a summons to appear at Court 16 at the High Court today at 2pm in relation to his participation in a picket at the Tesco distribution centre in Ballymun in support of the striking Eddie Stobart workers yesterday evening.
Five others were also served with summonses.
The court order was issued despite Deputy Ellis having called on the management of Eddie Stobarts to stop escalating the dispute with workers which caused stoppages yesterday and to meet with staff and their union to resolve the issues.
He was speaking after meeting with workers from Eddie Stobarts in Santry who have been involved in the stoppages over conditions and union recognition.
Deputy Ellis said:
“This is 2012 not 1913, it is unacceptable to not recognise these workers’ grievances or refuse to meet with their union. It is also unacceptable to attempt to use vulnerable non-unionised workers to break the dispute.
“These workers have real concerns over rest periods and work conditions. They have told me of the very long hours they work with little allowance for breaks. These are not well paid people and they are struggling in this climate, they need to be listened to and a resolution must be found.
“I call on the employer to meet workers and their representative through the LRC and call an end to the actions which have escalated the dispute.”
