Going on first job on Monday need help please

romik:
Today passed C+E and being sent out tonight in an artic. One thing I wanted to ask is where do I locate information about trailer height?

On the headboard of the trailer

interesting read for me,I passed my test a few weeks back so now my licence has just come back along with my tacho I’ll be hoping to start driving soon which I’m looking forward to but also dreading as I have no experience with tachographs and deliveries at all,I have lots of normal driving experience as I am a builder by trade so have driven vans with trailers most of my life and lived in France and Spain so have driven through cities like Paris and Madrid but am just worried about getting to grips with the tacho and paperwork side of things…I hate going into something blind and wet behind the ears but everyone haves to start at the bottom I guess,I have been playing about with the virtual tachograph I downloaded from this forum but its not the same as actually using one for real and getting to grips with it,I’m pretty good with computers and gadgets so am hoping I’ll pick things up fast,in the mean time I’ll be bricking it for my first outings lol

Unfortunately, the only way to learn is to pick up bits of info as you go, ask questions. I normally just smile and say it like it is, sorry bud, I am new at this, would you mind telling me… Just think about it, all were new to this once. One word of advice, if delivering to place you never been before and it’s looking tight, I would park up and walk in to check, as quite a few times I was sent to slightly wrong address and getting out of there was very stressful.

Although I’m good with a map I have asked for money off everyone for Christmas and intend to buy a truckers tomtom ‘‘5150’’'seems to have a good write up…just think a decent sat nav might help take some of the initial stress out although I might Check with the company I am hoping to get in with to see if they have sat navs already in their trucks because £280 buys quite a few bottles of nice single malt lol

I have the 5150 from Tomtom and it works a treat.

The haulage company has a obligation as a first time driver working for them to show you the ROPES look into it mate :sunglasses:

Got cpc mod 4 :open_mouth:

Company’s taking on someone from scratch have a obligation to show you what to do I’m told

A company may indeed show you the ropes, but an agency won’t. Newbies, unless they have a job lined up, usually end up starting with agency work, and you’ll get ZERO training. I speak from experience.
