Going from good to better

Well another hour another driving lesson as I say to myself! So today I thought was going to be the emergency stop lesson but in fact wasn’t the case today it was more hill starts and it seems I’m a ‘natural’ born driver… I didn’t roll back once or stall for that matter and my instructor was well impressed how I handled things although he does say I need to get a little more confident but he says it comes with time and to say I’ve only had 4 lessons I seem to be progessing (In my opinion!) that I am progressing rather fast to say I’ve only been driving a few weeks! But I aren’t getting too ahead of myself but it just seems to be promising so far and although I do make little mistakes they aren’t exactly what you would call ‘serious’ just little creases that need to be smoothed out a little bit (For now ofcourse!)

And to top things off I ended up going through some back roads that my granddad used to take me and my grandma etc down when I was a little sprog so a trip down memory lane you could say!! But Paul says I’m getting on just fine and that I’ve got quite a bit more confident than I was the last time so not bad at all. And my driving instructor I can only say is a great laugh and certainly is a breath of relief that I’ve met an instructor I can get on with I can only hope when I go onto hgvs I get an instructor just like him!

So to do a little review of todays performance it goes as this, Both steering/gear changes are a lot smoother and even using the old noggin to do correct gear changes when needed. I’ve still not clipped or kissed a kerb so I can only hope that sticks! I’ve been more confident and not so intimidated by trucks or anything like coming in my direction on country roads so can only be a good thing. Having done a little bit of town driving today I can say that needs to be improved with being more confident when there is busy traffic about (Going straight into town in the middle of lunchtime rush hour  not the most pleasant experience although I don’t see how people get annoyed with crap drivers I just shrug it off and get on with things although that maybe because pauls in the other side so trying to keep my language less french and more english  But apart from that I think todays lesson went completely well and even getting caught in the rain was slightly fun too…Yep I think I have the bug for driving now…now if only I can pass my test :grimacing: :grimacing:

Cheers

P.S Just to add I didn’t mistake second for fourth again this week I think I’ve got the nack of that so just thought I would add that in! Cheers!

I never done ANY emergency stops in my lessons and it’s not compulsory in the driving test anymore so don’t be surprised if you don’t get it.

Keep up the good efforts Jonny

Ahh well I suppose that’s nice to know but something that probably will be covered although that’s what was supposed to be covered in the lesson I had today but pleasantly surprised it wasn’t. I’ll be booking my theory test next month so at least that should be something out of the way. Then once that’s passed I’ll be able to just work on the driving test part of things which will be better as less things to worry about and working closer to becoming a truck driver :sunglasses:

Cheers

Nice drive johnny , and if you can keep that idea of not getting upset with other peoples driving it will make it more enjoyable for you , just remember whilst your fuming in your car the other driver who caused your upset is happily continuing on his way unaware of your rath so its pointless to let them get to u , at least that how i think , nothing worse than an angry driver , he makes the most mistakes

FTFY

I don’t tend to let things get to me as I really don’t see the point in letting something silly do so  But i did get a little annoyed with some cyclists who were cycling next to each other and didn’t bother getting into single file until half way down the road :unamused: but apart from that I was happy as a bird even when a few numptys cut infront of me but still a happy drive! Next lesson being next tuesday at 9am

One lesson closer to passing my test as they say :sunglasses:

Cheers

Well I knew it would happen sooner or later, and today has been the proof of the pudding :frowning: A few knocks to my confidence today with a few things. My instructor said in general i’m doing fine but a few things I need to work on.

Scenario one in question I was asked to turn into a road before the roundabout but I thought Paul said to turn into a road AT the roundabout but as I got to the road in question he said to turn in there, and as I did well it wasn’t pretty at all to say the least and I panic’d and well I pulled to the side of the road for my telling off  :frowning: But when I told him that I thought he meant turning at the roundabout he understood that it was an error of understanding but started talking about my speed of approaching things which I understand has been all over the place this lesson.

Today’s lesson was the emergency stop and I’m pleased to say that I cracked it at every attempt I was asked to do so…but then I braked a little too harshly approaching some cars that were parked as a car pulled out and with traffic behind me again I panic’d and my brain had a big brain ■■■■ and decided to not function properly but I understand when people say BMW drivers are complete ■■■■■■■ idiots :imp: When it was my right of way in the first place but decided to pull out on me and have me brake holding traffic up behind me :imp:

Mirrors the vain of my life! Either looking at them too much or not enough seems to be the problem with me but I assume its because I’m looking at them when I don’t need to be and not looking at them when I should although Paul says I’m improving with them but it still needs work. Also clutch control…I’ve cracked hill starts alright but it seems when I’m at junctions etc I’m sometimes as jumpy as a leap frog setting off but paul puts it down to being too bothered about the traffic behind me and feeling rushed to move off but he says it will come in time it’s just trying to get my mind in the right frame to not worry about it.

I suppose we all have them off days but it doesn’t half give your confidence a knock  I’m just hoping I don’t have anymore lessons like it! It doesn’t half make you feel like crap after you’ve been on a high from previous lessons and you get knocked down but hopefully I’ll be able to climb back up there. Here’s hoping I don’t have anymore ■■■■ ups like today :frowning:
