Going for a drive

I enjoy a nice day out in the country going to places I’ve never been to before. A perfect day would go something like this. Depending on start time we’ll find somewhere nice to have breakfast or lunch along the way and, suitably sated, we’ll meander onwards. Rushing is against the rules! We arrive at our intended destination although sometimes get sidetracked and end up somewhere completely different, just going with the flow. A wander round the various attractions/shops etc is followed by elevenses which might actually be at 3 in the afternoon but always in one of those wee tearooms that do home made cakes. Yummy!

Suitably refreshed, we head off again wherever our nose takes us. Usually by this point I will have identified a friendly looking inn where I can indulge in a couple of pints of the foaming ale (with a diet coke for the lady, she’s driving  ) perusing the menu whilst the first refreshing pint slips down. Heaven! After a hopefully enjoyable drink and meal it’s time to start the slow amble home.

Our most recent day out was to Malmesbury and a lovely day it was too. The weather was perfect, bright sunshine but not unbearably hot. It’s a small town so you can park the car up and just walk everywhere. Very picturesque and the sort of place you’d think about moving to when your lottery ticket comes up! We took tea at the Abbey gardens, highly recommended. On the way home we stopped at The Three Crowns at Brinkworth, the longest village in England they claim, for a fine meal and a couple of pints of Timothy Taylor. Lovely jubbly!

Well that’s our most recent day out. Where would fellow/fellowess truckers suggest as being worth a visit? Must include a decent pub and tearoom!
