Did anyone else.see This advert last night?
All a bit pointless really and should.of really been done years ago when smart motorways 1st started to appear

Scroll down and.you can watch the advert

Its a crap advert - what a waste of money etc

Just wasted 30 seconds of my life

If it only saves 1 life it’s money well spent

We don’t have any Smart Motorways up north so pretty irrelevant around here

peirre:

Can we agree that more lives have been lost on “smart” motorways than would have been lost on normal motorways?
Aren’t smart motorways being built to save having proper, normal, motorways with hard shoulders?
So lives are now being lost to save money.
.
It’s worth remembering that the original trials of smart motorways had many more refuges and better surveillance and signage than the cut price rubbish that has been rolled out.
It is a scandal.
.

to the educated maybe irrelevant to the rest helpful… :bulb:

That genuinely looks like it was made by a bunch of primary school kids in their media studies lessons, although sure they’d do better. WTF were those people dressed in stupid costumes who looked like they really knew this was the end of their career?

It seems to be more relevent to driving on a road with a hard
shoulder, and glosses over the all lane running stuff. If people don’t know about hard shoulders, where the heck have they been driving?

It’s much more likely they’ll have not come across or think about all lane running until they break down, but that should have been covered by big TV ads years ago. Not some crappy internet ad which most won’t see amd doesn’t really cover it.

As for call 999 - tried that once and they had no control over signs. Infact they’d spent a long time trying to highways to set them. Doesn’t inspire confidence especially as most people have no idea where they are on the motorway. This just results in “Report of obstruction” which people ignore as they’ve seen this false report 100s times before.

Wonder if this is a pathetic attempt to stave off criticism from them being referred to the CPS. Not that I expect that to be allowed to proceed to court.

When two people stand in a live lane exchanging insurance details after a prang instead of seeking refuge behind the armco then no wonder they get killed

^ This.

All that extra risk to life to add another overtaking lane combined with generally slower speeds and limits. They couldn’t make it up.

True, it would have been 36 deaths over the past 4 years instead of 38?
bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-51236375

“Freedom of Information (FoI) request sent by Panorama to Highways England revealed that on one section of the M25, outside London, the number of near misses had risen 20-fold since the hard shoulder was removed in April 2014.
In the five years before the road was converted into a smart motorway there were just 72 near misses. In the five years after, there were 1,485.”

Edit again…
Everytime there is an accident multiple things have gone wrong. If we were all perfect drivers there would be next to no accidents. We are not perfect. We live in the real world.
Better driver education will cut accidents. Not stopping if avoidable, climbing over the barrier, ( if you are fit, and park far enough from barrier to get out passenger side, or step onto 2nd lane?) will cut number of deaths.
Eliminating hard shoulders, without providing enough refuges is an avoidable extra risk.

Yes, but the money saved by increasing the distance between refuges from 600 metres to 2.5 miles provided a nice little pot for MPs’ salary increases.

Oh silly me!
All of question of priorities ain’t it?

Most breakdowns are avoidable.[…]
while more than 6,000 people simply ran out of fuel.

There is no hope. NO HOPE.

I thought he was the fat copper with the squeaky voice advertising Haribos

Yep low income groups struggling to pay road fuel taxes. So running everywhere on empty because they can’t afford it.Unlike the same tax rate when applied to the highly paid income of an …MP.
