I’m doing the night trunk from Gloucester to Ince in Makerfield (near Wigan) all this week. I’ll be coming back when the M6 is shut from J14 to J13. I’m eager to avoid being held up in Stafford for an hour and a half. I was thinking of coming off at J15 and either:
going down the A34 and round Stafford via the A513, A518 and A449 to J13, or:
avoiding the whole sorry shambles and going via the A50, A38 and M42.
I’ll be pulling a 16’ tall decker, I can’t think of any low bridges on either route though. I suspect the A50 route will take longer, but at least I’ll be moving all the time. Anyone got any better ideas?

If all goes well (ha!) I’ll be out of the yard by 7.45 pm or so. Looks like the M5 is expected to reopen at 5pm, with luck it should be ok by the time I get there around 8.30.
Don’t worry, at that time of night there will be no hold ups on the diversion route, I haul a 16 foot trailer going the other way (Northbound) around 03;30 and its best just to follow the diversions.
Ok, I’ll try following the diversion tonight. I should be setting off south around 11.30, midnight ish, so all being well it’ll be reasonably quiet by the time I get there.

Hopefully m5 north will be clear too from 19 upto 1 about 9 o clock tonight running back from Chepstow with a decker could do without any faffing about with diversions last day of 5 and all that

According to the Highways Agency searchable roadworks database the M6 Southbound J14-13 closure starts Wed evening at 7:15pm (and runs until 23rd Dec).
