Gloucester MSA.

Parking is £23 with a fiver meal voucher, but there are no warning signs when you pull in to park.
If you stayed overnight and left without walking in to the building to ask,you would get an invoice to pay in the post.
Is this legal not to warn drivers to pay to park ? Their homemade peis are amazing, try the venison or steak or steak pies. With wholemealflour casing.

Kitchen shuts about 21.00 but they give food to you in a cardboard box to take away for a fiver , as they charge a kids price for the food.
I took out some Maccaroni cheese.
If getting bored at night, you can walk to the village by the Msa.
The truck parking is quite close to the motorway but after a while you do not notice the noise.
The exit slip road is too short to join the motorway.

Long story but the answer is NO.
How can you agree to a contractual agreement that is not even signposted?

So they should not be charging parking due no signage.Harry Monk should email them as soon as possible.

There are a few ways to look at this but in essence a contract cannot be formed under duress.
That said a reasonable person would expect to have to pay for parking at a services, the amount could be considered to be sub £20 which without the meal voucher is £18.

So it would not be unreasonable to be expected to pay for 7 hours parking if stopping here for 9 hours or 9 hours if stoping here for 11 (2 hours free).

So if stopping for 9 hours an invoice of £7.38 (0.82 x 9) would be fair, round it up to £7.50 via a cheque to be on the safe side. 2 hours free so 18 / 22 = 0.82

However if you receive a speculative invoice for £60 I would (and have) asked them to take it to court immediately so it can be resolved. They won’t as they can only sue for genuine losses at the point of alleged contract breach etc.
Oh and admin fees etc fall under costs which are generally not awarded on the small claims track of our court system.

Course if your company pays your parking then this point is mute and you should cough up.

[edit: as always-for ■■■■ sake don’t take the word of an internet poster on this, seek real world legal advice or pay for your parking in the first place.]

Also as this is a new services and the quality of food is exceptional i wouldn’t reccomend not spitting your dummy out and instead bugger off and park in a layby so a proper customer can have your space, you tight ■■■■

Am I the only one that thinks 23 quid is extortionate for parking anywhere, how you guys that park 4 nights a week on these ■■■■ holes think that it’s reasonable to pay up to and beyond a hundred quid a week I will never understand.

Because it’s a legitimate business expense/cost ?

Like putting fuel in the wagon ?

I suppose to prevent things like this happening all trucks should only do day work.

Just out of interest should ferry fares be free for truckers or are they a legitimate business cost ?

A quick root doesn’t find much on Taxpayer funded parking rather than private businesses.
Lorries overnight fee
5pm - 9am Monday - Saturday
Time Parked Parking Charge
Overnight fee £6.30

Oxpens Car Park Charges for Mini-buses, coaches and lorries

Lorries for 24 hours - £12.50

Search “Thurrock truckstop report” the 1st item (afraid i can’t link on the phone)

Which links to the aecom report.
It makes interesting reading.

So what’s the solution ?
Who pays for it the taxpayer or the transport industry?

The link is not working correctly. You can edit it?

Then you would just ignore it, same as anybody else who sent you an invoice for something you hadn’t agreed to pay. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s the one  And here’s the link to the Aecom report
trans-top.com/LorryParksUK.pdf (admittedly getting on a bit but the latest/best we have  )

I know some ‘European’ (gov officials) were after a visit to look at British truck parking ‘strategy’  with DfT, It took me ages to pick myself up off the floor laughing.

I ‘have’ or ‘used to have’ an interest in trucks and issues relating to them as an ‘ex’ truck driver but after dealing with various gov officials esp in DfT i think it’s a long road ahead, the view was taken long ago 1992 (not sure of the minister at the time) that the private sector should be responsible for the provision of roadside facilities, i think they may have failed badly in foreseeing the outcome in regard to truck parking but the view that it is up to the private sector to provide provision still seems to be widely held.
