Glass recycling

Got an interview tomorrow for a job driving a glass recycling lorry (not Kerbside collections I might add)

From what I can gather it involves collecting “wheelie bins” full of glass and loading them on the wagon via a hook lift (a bit like the biffa bins perhaps)

Has anyone done this at all or know anything about it.

(if it helps the firm is subbing for Berrymans)

Hi Semtex, that sounds like a smashing job.

 HeHeHe, I’ve beaten ROG to that one. :grimacing:

:open_mouth: Now I’ll skip it and go to the next post.

Good luck Sem, it sounds like a nice job mate.

There is a company do it round here. I watched with interest.with my missus. That job would do me sez I. It would get me home more and still allow me to keep you soaked in Gin.

Sez she, what is he doing? Sez me, he is emptying the bottle banks.

Why do I have to sort the glass into different colours? sez she.

Sez me, “because i once learnt it on here”.
Because the truck has got seperate compartments.

Until I looked again, it was a standard tipper with a hiab and he was mixing the glass in the body

I done a little bit of this before for a company called Gaskells in Liverpool. It involved collecting the wheelie bins from pubs, clubs and the like. I did manage to drop a full double size one right in the middle of the road, i shouldn’t of been out the cab as i had a ‘loader’, i thought i was helping
We had the keys to a lot of places rear yards and let ourselves in, the went round the front to let them know we’d been and sometimes collect a tip of a few bottles of lager! I had a smashing time

Hook Loaders are a piece of ■■■■ mate. Just make sure you are lined up straight when you start to lift otherwise it get a bit brown trouser when it comes up off the ground and swings round to level over the body.

Seriously, take your time and its a cushty number.

The reference to BIFFA bins - are they not usually Front End Loaders■■?

i.e. The forks on the front that take the bin up and over the cab. Thats fun too,

PS: TAKE THE CORNERS STEADILY THOUGH. (Can be a bit top heavy)

Thanks for all the advice…I didn’t get it though :frowning:
