Glasgow to Spennymoor

Which way would you go from Glasgow to Spennymoor?
I haven’t got my map with me, and am looking at satnav.
Mate who usually does job says he goes A66 and to Barnards Castle and A688.
I was thinking maybe A69 A1 off at Durham services and A688
I hope to be leaving Glasgow around 06.30

I would try to avoid A1(M)
Roadworks are total nightmare.
A66 is quite fast, loads of dual sections.
Think I was the only one doing 44mph yesterday! :open_mouth:

that’s the way to go…flat to the mat the whole way apart from if you get caught on the single lane parts with a Tosco rolling roadblock

Cheers, I haven’t been north of Peterborough for 5 years, so a little rusty being this far north!

7:5t limit on the bridge in Barney with camers on every angle. Need to turn off 66 just before Greta Bridge and go past Bowes museum Iinto Barney. Personally I’d go up A1, off at Aycliffe and up the A167 to Spennymoor.

From someone who lives just along from ‘Barney’ - nice btw  - I would recommend this route as being the ‘easiest’. It might not be the shortest as the crow flies, but if you want to avoid a tight enough bridge crossing of the Tees, and then a tight-as-t*ts turn around the Buttermarket in Barney, it’s your best option. Most locals would also thank you for steering clear as these old town/villages round here really weren’t designed for today’s size of vehicle.

PS Even found a pic for you - You would be taking this road and around to the right :open_mouth:

Thanks people.
I followed the signs for lorries to Banard Castle, rubbish road all the way in, I saw the building in the picture above, a bit tight turning right there, anyway no problems to Spennymoor after B castle.
I followed the signs back to the A1 and at a roundabout I could have turned right and gone south past Newton Aycliffe and come out at Darlington services on the A1, or straight across to A1, I went straight across and pulled in a deep layby on the left with a tea van in, and saw something happening further up the layby between 2 men that will scar me for the rest of my life!

See… friendly bunch up here - at least you realized what you saw was a spectator sport rather than a participation one :open_mouth:

And good job taking a drive through B’Castle - sounds like all you didn’t do to further endear yourself to the natives was double park along the main street and pop into Greggs for 5 mins.
It’s what most delivery/LGV drivers do as the place approaches meltdown around them :unamused:

Jon

I think one of the blokes in the layby could have been called Gregg, as the other bloke popped into him for 5 mins!

  … you owe me a new laptop … just spit my red wine over mine laughing … made my evening :exclamation:

A bit of a shok isn’t it. I used to do a collection near Northfleet on the A2. At that time (gone now) there was a car park with toilets and a butty bar where I used to stop for a break. Turned out it was a well known spot for the bum boys to ply their trade.
