Is is just a rumour that there was(is)a sub base underneath the rock.Ideal hiding and refueling base in the first and second world war.Anyone recal the Monarch airliner that came down hard on a rough landing,it is one of the hardest places to land for pilots, due to cross/down winds,or as the locals call it the “Levante”.It was parked up by the RAF station and large stress fracture cracks could be seen, under and around the fueselage.Did the crew get sacked. An American based airline has sacked two pilots for over flying the airport by 150 miles, thay may lose their ATPL,and CPL for one or two years.
