Getting the Ball rolling!

Thought I may spread the word here to give a bit of warning to!  I’m getting the ball rolling from the 10th of May. Have my D2 forms ready and medical booked with Tockwith Training for the 10th May! Once I get my provisional back I shall be doing an assessment drive to see where my weaknesses are, then once I’ve done the theory & CPC mod 2 is passed I shall be doing another assessment drive to see how many hours I shall be needing. But I am looking to start my training from my 20th birthday in August

After near 20 years of waiting to drive a lorry, I’m still pinching myself for it to sink in that I am able to train on them now :grimacing:

So the training diary shall be on here when I eventually start the training.

Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

All the best with it. Pete

Good luck! I waited about that long too!

Hey Jonny!

May I also wish you all the very best with your training matey. I think the trick is to actually enjoy it, as you only get to do it once…unless you end up in front of the Traffic Officer in the future and lose your licence! But of course, nobody is that stoopid, right?

The difference is you were probably driving cars for that length of time. Jonny has only just in the last couple of weeks passed his car test.

I wish you all the best mate. I know I rib you about it but you have come a long way since the trials and tribulations of college, so I hope you do well.

good luck with it Jonny , I think your fine you will still be in learning mode so hopefully will soak all the info up and have a great time training , have you had any luck finding something driving job wise yet , I know you were looking ?

Don’t forget to visit a few different training providers some do free assessment drives.

All the best

Paul

Thank you all for the kind words!

LJA I’ve been taught my license is a privilege not a right, I earned my privilege to drive a car now it’s time to earn my spot in the lorries (Plus the first assessment drive is more to just have ago in the lorry :grimacing: )

&& Jennie I’ve not been as successful as of yet, there was a job going round here that I had applied for for a van driver doing national deliveries and being out 2-3 nights out a week. But the old chestnut of not being 21 or having enough experience popped up :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: But to be fair to the bloke I spoke to he did thank me for applying for the position and that when I have the years experience, if they are looking again to put my name forward as my attitude is something his company looks for. Didn’t get me the bloody job though  ! But I’ve applied for a position in huddersfield, as a delivery driver. Driving a flatbed van delivering timber around yorkshire & lancashire. I got off the phone with the boss before my shift, I asked about the old chestnut of no experience etc he said that the company doesn’t discriminate against age and experience. And that I should hear back a week next friday for an interview. But I’m not going any further than that!

&& Thank you elmet training I will do that, it would be good to see what other training providers give. Although I do have my heart set on tockwith but I shall keep an open mind !

Cheers

Nice one Jonny. :sunglasses:

Well, you have got the right attitude my friend, so I’m sure you won’t have too long to wait before everything falls into place. All the very breast!

out of interest, why do you have your heart set on them?

When i came back here a year or so after I joined i know someone from tockwith used to post on here. And i know nobody had a bad word to say for them.

Also my uncle told me about them before he passed on telling me about them using the 6x2 volvo FH13 as their training vehicle on the artic. So its somet
hing thats just seemed like the place i should go! And £58 for my medical…can hardly complain! Plus tockwith is only a couple mile from where my uncle lives. So free hotel for the week

Cheers

Their training days are 8 hours I believe, which I think is too long, and from what I’ve seen of them they spend an awful lot of time parked up on Thorp Arch getting coffees and sandwiches!

The biggest newest lorries aren’t always the best, but will cost more to the pupil, and the pass certificate is just the same whoever you use!

Well as I said above, I’m keeping an open mind. But for me if the place feels right. I’ll know from the right off if I’m going to enjoy training with them.

I’m not fussed with whether they had a Scania 113 as a training vehicle. If they provide good training then that’s all I ask  But we’ll see as time goes on

I’m not going for training straight away, I’ll have my medical/provisional and the theory side of things done well before my 20th birthday. I’m going to be starting training from my 20th birthday as a present to myself  But I know people will disagree, it’s just my job to prove folk wrong :grimacing:

Cheers
