It’s about time I took my class 1, I have had my class 2 (originally class 3) for 29 years my class 2 has the wag and drag 102 restriction but I have never driven a wag and drag.
We run three new scania artics and my rigid and one of our guys moons ago was an instructor, he generously has stayed behind and set out a reversing course in our yard a few times and is confident I would be fine with that.
My question is what is the best training school around the north-west I live in Kirkby Merseyside at the minute I have about a grand spare.
I know I can gain experience and extra driving on our own wagons, I am doing this more just for me as I earn as much as our class 1 drivers anyway.
The company said they will put me in for the test but I would rather pay myself and not be beholden to anyone. Old age and pride
Oh and I am planning to take lessons around August in my summer hols, how long before is it usual to book with a trainer?
Cheers guys.
I live in West Derby mate and even though it’s a bit out the way I’d say Chevron training in Flint is worth you looking into, I done my cat c with them. Obviously there are others that are nearer but don’t get as good feedback on here!
I had a shortlist of about 3 and went with chevron as there are so many success stories on here.
I’ll echo what Paul said - Chevron IMO, is the best training school in the North West - their pass rate stats prove this. Very nice and professional bunch down there.
Why not book a days holiday from work (so your company isn’t losing anything in terms of paying you) and chuck a pair of L plates on one of your artics, go out with one of your CE drivers for the day to see what it’s all about ?
Just a thought…
I will be going out in one of our wagons when work is quiet, I do the reversing a few nights a week if I am back in the depot.
I am quite lucky as one of our drivers is an ex-instructor, it shows, he is normally a mild mannered guy, till I make a mistake then he turns very angry
Seriously he is a good mate and gives his time free (must have been the bottle of single malt I got him for his 60th )
I pulled the finger out this week and passed today in a full articulated vehicle.
I finally went with transport training academy and passed at atherton centre.
The course was great though the early scania 4 series unit had issues with the seat and reverse, but otherwise it was great and the instructor was good.
Oh Atherton was and always has been a bugger to drive around, I was just a bit lucky I occasionally had drops around that area and knew a fair bit of the routes.
I always assume you had the class 1 licence, and was just driving the class 2 by choice…
I must have missed this thread originally!
How come you weren’t getting the stick I do■■?
Maybe I just ask for it!
I just tell them to stick it where the sun don’t shine
To be fair in our place they respect you for what you do rather than a licence, in other words I get away with murder
