Getting back after 16years off!

hi everyone , i’ve just got my cat c license back after giving it up around 16 years ago , mainly because i ending up caring for my now ex-partner , the last job i had was for Business Post on a nightshift trunk from team valley gateshead to birmingham .

i’m doing the CPC 20th of next month (whats that all about !!) and have been offered a job once completed with a local firm .

I’m slightly concerned about the reverising aspect , as 16 years is a long time to be away , has anyone been in a similar situation ,if so how did they find reversing after a huge spell off , is it like riding a bike , once learnt you never forget ?

Also i’m looking at getting a sat nav , and have seen a one for £90 at a website called discount sat navs , https://www.discountsatnavs.co.uk/
has anyone used these before , and how did they find them

thanks in advance

Last September started back cat C after 10 year gap.
Reversing will be ok by second day. Like riding a bike.
It won’t take you long either to discover how ‘hard a shift’ class 2 can be.
I bought a X goody LGV sat nav from eBay & it’s served me well enough. Although despite typing vehicle dimensions in it still tries to take me routes it shouldn’t. Like anything else keep your wits about you & don’t rely on it. Common sense is underestimated.
All in all the driving isn’t the biggest hurdle with cat C. It’s the graft required & all the other ■■■■ that goes with it.
Would be doing my class 1 if I had the cash…

I would think that of you had a few miles under your wheels before your break if should come back easily enough?
Lots of places want to give you an assessment today. Maybe to give yourself a confidence boost and ‘get your eye in’ pay for a day’s tuition.
No test, so no pressure, and you’ll make any errors then, not on a trial for that good job you’re trying for.
Good luck anyway, and welcome back.

oops sorry its a class 1 that I have

I went back to driving 4 years ago after about 15 year. I did half day driving with a local trainer first and it was like I’d never been away, except for my left hand fishing for the non-existent gear stick. Biggest pain was getting the cpc sorted. Took weeks. Reversing was not a problem. Wasn’t any worse than I was 15 years previously.

You will be just fine!

Nothing has changed… including the money :open_mouth:
