This week I have been told I am getting a brand new motor on Monday. Now ordinarily this would me dropping my present vehicle in the yard and driving away in the new one, as this would be the case when I was living in England. Over here it is not that simple, I have to take my present truck to Albany NY and lock it, it seems some new guy who starts work in Worcester MA will be getting it, it contains over $2,000.00 worth of equipment, so I have told the manager I am not just going to leave it unlocked until I transfer everything to the new one, problem is the new one is in Dubuque IA, so they have bought me air tickets and I will fly out to Iowa via Chicago. It takes me 2 days to get there in my truck but with the use of two planes I take off at 7.30am nd arrive in Dubuque at 11.00am the same day
Could you imagine Stobbarts flying a driver from Birmingham to Glasgow to get his new truck ? … I think not
So after getting the new one do you have to drive back to the old one to swap all your gear over, or are you airfreighting that as well!
What a palaver!
Self storage ? Get your gear in there for a few dollars? If anything goes wrong with the plan, then your gear is safe and the next guy gets away OK.
I have been assured my truck will be untouched apart from the service before it is handed to the next guy. I should be back in Albany by Wednesday. I am trying to figure out how my rest is going to work on Monday ? I will have to book a 10 hour ‘off duty’ and then leave Dubuque, or I could still run after getting the truck. I am logging on at 03.00 which, if I choose will allow me to work until 5.00pm, which will actually be 4.00pm Dubuque time. As I am told the truck collection will take a while and I am going to be fed, I also want to meet up with ‘Scouse Express’ who is an old friend from this forum and we still keep in touch via Facebook. I may just finish the rest period and run at night or very early Tuesday.
Not looking forward to the two box kites I have to fly on, I checked them out and they are dam small, I love flying but only on big planes. I also don’t trust two bit airlines like the one I have to fly with, I only trust Virgin Atlantic and British Airways
First flight.
Second flight.
You missed both your flights!!
Good luck pat with your new truck
I was flown out to Holland, given a brand new lorry and a hotel for two nights. They gave me a complete set of fittings, kit, safety gear and fuel cards. Then I shipped home solo to have three days off in the UK [emoji636]

As someone who has worked in aviation for the last 10 years you have nothing to worry about, American Eagle is AA’s regional airline, they operate a fleet of relatively modern aircraft, the first flight is on an Embraer 175 which is fast becoming the go to aircraft for regional airlines, very modern and overall a nice bit of kit.
Your second flights is and Embraer 145 not as modern and not going to lie it’s small; small enough that me at 6”2 has to duck to walk along the cabin, seat config is 1:2; 1 seat - isle - 2 seats, so bonus if you get a single seat.
I won’t lie the airline doesn’t have a squeaky clean safety record but most incidents were on their older fleet of aircraft which mostly no longer operate, remember statistically your more likely to write that shiney new truck off on the way home than have an accident on either of your flights.
That’s my professional 2 cents [emoji6]
