After reading some of your other posts, it appears that you have changed you mind about the industry now the novelty has worn off.

HA HA HA HA HA !!!
what a superb reply

Anyone able to translate … Something about having to work for a living and crying about it ?

Might have got a reasonably paid job working 9-3 in a school if he had mastered basic spelling and punctuation…

No, I don’t. I earnt £118 today for 11 hours work. Well I say work, some driving and a few trailer swaps.

I wouldn’t say that’s fantastic either, there’s better out there but I’ll take it while it’s going. If you’re unhappy then look for another job, £8.30 is not lucky money IMO. I feel sorry for those who can only get that although I have worked for less on the path to where I am now.

Hi Newbe

Probably not the best place to say how fed up you are. Most on here are trying to better their lives and looking for a bit of encouragement. They’re not fools and don’t want BS

Loads of guys have found better lives driving than previously. They don’t want to hear your bad news.

Us lot just give help where we can to help. Not for profit but because we might help.

Someone reading this tomorrow is in a worse spot than you and logs in hoping to read something that inspires him/her.

Either say something positive or say nothing

Some people would give anything to be in a full time driving job… yeah I think you are lucky, try doing 7.5t work with 90% handball and 12 hour shifts for less money… now that’s fun!!

It is so simple, if you get everyone going into an industry it gets saturated with cheap labour. Employers make all the rules they like and pay you peanuts. If you want good pay and conditions and call your own shots train for something that is in demand. That is why I went into IT after the coaching industry declined due to cheap flights in 1992. IT was brilliant in the 90’s and you could demand what you wanted as employers were fighting each other to get you.

In 2002 onwards plumbers were earning almost twice the salary of average IT workers as there was a sever shortage of apprenticeships/tradesmen and that ended with the polish filling in the gaps!

Every industry has cycles and what I have learned is try to see the curve ahead. Right now insurance companies are starving the trucking industry of new blood yet there is more road haulage than ever. On top of that Owners of haulage companies are under the cosh. My perception (I could be wrong) is that there will be a shortage of drivers soon as who in there right mind would go into this industry the way drivers are treat? We have seen the rise of the agencies and that will consolidate, some will go bust and what is left will be the major players. Haulage companies will continue to go to the wall as Supermarkets etc. have their own fleets and depots. There will be a period where it will be great to be a class 1 driver with all the skills ADR, HIAB, Moffet, FLT and of course up to date DCPC with a clean licence and a reputation for being customer facing and a good ambassador for your client. Like everything else those that moan the world owes them a living will fall by the wayside and a core of drivers will emerge with all the skills that is being asked for. I plan to be in that core

So my message is don’t be a mug and miss the boat, invest that money it will reward you :open_mouth:

av just read some of your older posts newbe and all i can say is ffs calm down man. you,ve only been driving artics for a wee while, if it leaves you a nervous wreck worring about others watchin you reversing then you aint going to go far. 50/60 hours is a normal week what you going to do when it reaches 75 some weeks. as was said earlier take a breath, grit yer teeth and treat it as experience, years from now if your still driving you will laugh at your little rant. we all have days/periods like that

When i log onto this forum i think, jesus have i just blown all that money for nothing. So much negative crap.
I work a 40 hour week monday to thursday.Fri,sat, sun off.£8 an hour £10 an hour on fridays if i choose to work and the option of outwork. But i bloody hate it.

I paid for my course with my credit card and the interest is rediculous.Every weekend i am sitting at home doing outwork to pay of my credit card. But that’s life.Who cares.Live with it and get on with it.Personally i can’t wait to have my licence and i will do all the outwork i have to to get it and get my C+E.

Less negativity please :unamused:

yeah for 7 pound an hour no overtime rate like I would think most on here have done
As a newb you have to work your way up from the bottom if you make enough to live on then just get on with it like everyone else that enters haulage, yep it is ■■■■ but keep on smiling and remember get the experience in. Having juat read your other posts it would seem you are not so new to this as your name suggests if I were you I would seriously consider going back to buses because I know drivers with mountains of experience who would give there right arm for a safe full time job just now.

I would not recommend spending money on driver training as the market is more than flooded with drivers. This results in lower wages and standards for all of us.

Untrue. I have never worked for such poor money and nor would I. If you’ve a bit of oil in your lamp, you can earn an OK wage right from the start. Just a browse through some of the posts on TN will tell you why a new driver with a bit of nouse can do reasonably well from day one.

I would say that is depends on where you are most jobs round my way are £7 to£8 an hour.

I wouldn’t call £8 an hour poor. I get that at the moment, and while it might not be great, I understand, that from an employer/agency point of view, I am a relatively new driver, better pay will hopefully come with experience. I thought I could use 15yrs 7.5t experience in my favour, and while it has helped, it hasn’t been that much help. I’m happy doing what I’m doing at the moment, the money may not be great, but with the chance of going temp to perm, I can look forward to some decent wages hopefully.
I have my class 1 course to do in a few weeks, and I already have an inkling of a possible job, but we’ll see.
A couple of years ago, I was doing 7.5t, night run to a parcel depot, and I was on more than I am now now. I was getting £9.58 an hour, although like all good things, it had to come to an end. I look back on that as being at the top of my game, for that licence category, and maybe I can get back to that level of pay at some point.
