GERMANY new laws FOR winter

HELLO; this is a bit late but the germans have brought in

new laws as regards winter conditions and driveing.YOU

must be EQUIPED for winter driveing conditions, this means

haveing WINTER TYRES FITTED; de-icer in your windowscreen

bottle, use of snow -chains as and when required,

HERE AS regards snow-chains it is cheaper to carry your own

AS THE FINE AND THE COST OF BUYING THEM LOCALY

will take the profit (S) ,ALSOif you are involved in any incident

that is due to YOU not compliying with the laws, you MAY BE//WILL BE

invited to attend court and appear before a judge, also the insurance

may/can say you cover was invalid (GERMAN COMPANYS YES);

another tip;; carry a shovel and a bucket of sand or grit
this helps when traction is lost.

Is there any chance you could find a link for an official site with that on it Brit Pete?

I can’t see my boss, or many others if it comes to it, spending money on winter tyres or snow chains on what is essentially hear say. If I can send him to the official site, he might then at least consider it.

Or the possibilty of picking up a MULTI language leflet up from a German MSA or Autohof??

If they change laws it should be made VERY clear to ALL drivers visiting

Snow chains fair enough BUT winter tyres, COME ON :open_mouth: :open_mouth: or the german goverment are getting a rather large backhander from Continental / Bridgestone

It just seems to be Fine this, Fine that nowadays :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: Which is why more and more barmy laws get passed, to try and catch us out :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

at present simon i can,t get the correct site

the law states as follows,YOU MUST BE EQUIPPED

with the correct tyres for the roadthis goes also so

far that you must have de-icer in the windowscreen

bottle, etc,IF found to have the wrong tyres for the

conditions then,YOU will be fined, and here in GERMANY

our insurance companys can if they so wish refuse to

pay out, if you do not have winter tyres on and have a

ACCIDENT; THEY WILL BE dealing with those who

do not have the correct equipement much Harsher

than those who DO; (as soon as i get the paragraph

i will post it)

IF you are doing AUSTRIA it is LAW and you will get

they full wrath of their laws, plus have to buy winter tyres

and snow chains,

So what about the people without your inside knowledge of the German Laws Pete, there must be a leflet or info on the net somewhere

We need something concrete to show our boss’s :sunglasses:

YOU WILL HAVE TO GET THIS TRANSLATED AS IT IS IN GERMAN

THE ABOVE IS IN ENGLISH;look at the next site it is in GERMAN
AND YOU WILL NEED TO GET IT TRANSLATED the post you need
is the second one dealing withLKW;S UND WINTER AUSRUSTUNG

polizei.bayern.de/niederbaye … html/25527

HOPE THIS HELPS; and your boss can also apply to the BAG for any info
as well,

Hi Pete,

All i have managed to find on the web is the following :-

Snow chains: when driving in mountaneous regions in the winter, you should carry snow chains with you. They have to be attached when the snow chain sign shows up (see picture with “snow chains required” sign). Snow chains can be rented from gas stations and the ADAC (german automobile club). With attached snow chains the speed limit is 50 km/h.

I will keep looking though and if i manage to find anything will post it here.

have just posted on the site the links with the information

please go back one or two posts,

when you get the german site tranlated you will see it is

a catch 22 situation,it states you must be equiped for the
steet/weather conditions, and if caught out in a incident
the appropiate action will be taken against you, this
leaves you open to the full force of the law book when
you are not correctly outfitted for winter,
MY ANSWER TO ALL OF THIS IS FIT

WINTER TYRES ON THE DRIVE AXLE

CARRY THE SNOWCHAINS(2or4);

SHOVEL;SAND/GRIT; DE-ICE FLUID;

and have no problems,with

MR man in the green suit,(BLUE)

or the insurance Co,

Just translated this off the Bayern Police site, and there is no mention of snow chains :-

In the article 2 of the StVO, it is named: “in motor vehicles the equipment is to be adapted to the weather ratios. To this especially a suitable tires and antifreeze in the Scheibenwaschanlage. belong”.

Concretely this means that each motor vehicle, which is operated in wintry ratios in the streets traffic, must be equipped, with winter tire (M + S marking). Without regard to the legal least profile depth of 1.6 mm advises both the police and the automobile clubs to a profile of at least 4 mm in winter tire.

A warning money of 20 Euros threatens every traffic participant who is nevertheless in winter-typical load ratios with summer tire underway. It should come at the same time quite to a handicap of other traffic participants, the fine catalogue sees a fine of 40 Euros and a point in the Flensburger traffic sinner card index before.

One should consider that next to the fine also insurance technical consequences threaten. In the case an accident is to be calculated therewith that liability and Vollkaskoversicherungen do not step full in payment.

The police advises therefore for a good start into the winter: Make your vehicle “winter fit” (with winter tire, frost protection in the Scheibenwischwaschanlage and motor cooling, functional disks wiper leaf and a battery-check) worries you before trip start for good visibility. (An ice scratch belongs into every automobile). Ice and snow must be removed by the automobile or truck. Other traffic participants can jeopardize Herabfallender snow or ice disk. Adapt your driving speed the streets ratios. Enlarge if necessary the security distance to the man in front. Budget travel time in especially bad weather sufficiently.

The police direction Erding wishes all traffic participants a good trip through this winter.

I have to go out now but will keep looking when i get back.

IN GERMANY::

it is not LAW TO CARRY SNOW CHAINS

unless you are in the MOUNTAIN AREAS or

on a road which states snow chains must be used.

that is correct for Germany, but it is

LAW IN AUSTRIA;:

to carry snowchains and have winter tyres

on the drive axles,

but WHICH IS THE CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE

you get them at home through the firm at

a good price, or you end up buying them

at well over the market price when on the road

by THE WAY in Switzerland it is some times

a requirement to have 2sets of chains,

fitted before you can move through some

parts of the country ,where it is very bad,

Hi Pete,

Thanks for that i was abit confused as i understood from your original post that snow chains were now a requirement in Germany.

I am fortunate to have snow chains anyway as the company i work for does alot of Italy, Swiss aswell as Germany and all the continental motors have got everything in them that is required for all these countries    we aren’t allowed to use the snow chains though we have to park up and use the snow cutains :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

yes sorry about that, unfortunatly it is a catch 22

situation, becuse if you do not have any of the articles

mentioned ,the driver ends up being the one who

suffers, glad to here that you firm is A1 and has all vehicles

for the winter in europe outfitted with every thing needed,

as you said you do swiss then you know of the problem

on the TRANSIT–ROUTE from-to ITALY-GERMANY

and the large parking areas where we have to fit

either (1)one pair or (2) TWO PAIR OF SNOWCHAINS

when required,
