The Zoobrücke will cause havoc for trucks going into the Messe but at least Cologne has enough bridges to keep things moving.
I remember when the bridge was being dualled on the A4, it was always a good talking point between John Willy and I about the clever engineering
I do believe that the Germans had to bring in the best engineers and
they are British for Suspension Bridges , the name was posted not
sure now but it stuck out as they were posted at the top above Thyssen
who were the building firm,

Aye, if you want any bridge work doing, call us in again. It might be Thyssen Krupps steel but a bit of British Steel can alter the landscape

Seemed to be mostly Geordies working on that. A few times I was stuck in slow moving traffic when that job was under way and was asked if I had any UK newspapers by guys working on it and everyone of them had a North East accent.

Way-aye man, those Geordies are always ganning somewhere, so ganning to Germany is easy for them!!
This one looks like it needs a bit of tender loving care too!
On August 26, 2004, a car collided with a tanker truck containing 32,000 liters of fuel on the Wiehltal Bridge in Germany. The tanker crashed through the guardrail and fell 100 feet off the A4 Autobahn resulting in a huge explosion and fire which destroyed the load-bearing ability of the bridge.

That’s near enough exactly what I used to think when they asked me for newspapers.
