German Tips

Roundabout, the Saturday bans apply to every Saturday in July and August and the restriction applies between 07:00 and 20:00, which gives you a 4 hour window in which you can drive before the Sunday ban kicks in at midnight… It doesn’t apply to all motorways and there are some sections of National road included. i used to have a link to a map that could be downloaded and printed out showing the affected roads but the link is dead now. I’ll look for a new link and post it if I find it.

As Coffholic has said the ban is from the 1st JULY------- 31stAUGUST
YOU may be able to get a copy of theroutes and a description of the ban
from either the following address or at the border in to Germany.
Use the form mentioned below ,and yes you can write in English ,asking for information on the driveing ban they will get back to with a reply,
Also other bans will be in force in other member countrys as well
get in touch with either the FTA: or the RHA for up to date list.

Coffee put a link on the site somewhere, which went to a pdf of the pamphlet with details of the summer bans in Germany. I can’t find the post but I’ve got the pdf on my laptop. I’ll dig it out and see if the link is in there tomorrow, unless the link turns up before then.

As I said further up Simon that link is dead now, and I haven’t been able to find another.

I mis-understood your post Coffee.

Found a link at last. It contains information on the Saturday restrictions in German, English and French and also a map showing which Autobahns and national roads are affected. It is in PDF format.

German Saturday Restrictions

Be a wise idea to get a MAUT Atlas, and try and buy your maut before you enter germany, i entered germany without one and intended to buy one at the first autohof, went under a sensor and before i knew it BAG were on my case, they spoke perfect english, tried to explain that i was looking for somewhere to buy the MAUT but they said it was too late as i was already on the Autobahn and fined me 221€ plus the MAUT for my journey :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

They gave me a MAUT Atlas though, but 15€ for a MUAT Atlas is far cheaper!!!

I Religously buy my MAUT now and Plan all my jouneys with the MAUT Atlas, even if my journey is 10km - ill buy one!!!
:sunglasses:
They give you stacks of time to comple your journeys aswel, brought one the other day to do 35km and it gave me 2 hours to do it!!!

Better still get an OBU fitted :unamused:

That site that gbtransp put up is good. I hope you noticed how many sites there are in Belgium and Holland where you can get a Vignette, practically none.

If you get an OBU fitted, for Germany, they take about 4 hours to fit and cost roughly €500, but you get €500 credit on your MAUT bill I believe. If not, get a Toll Collect card. These are just like a credit card, with a chip and magnetic strip. They hold all the details of your truck, which saves a lot of time with the machines, and can be linked to your fuel account for paying the toll easily. You need a MAUT atlas to go with the card, to make it easier to find the machines.

The company I work for only has the cards and atlas (we are trying to persuad the boss to get OBUs fitted). It is fairly straight forward but needs some forward planning. I can book the whole of my tipping route, get everything unloaded and take an overnight rest in the middle of my route, with a couple of hours spare, usualy. I also set my route to end at the nearest autohof to my last drop, so I am able to book my return journey, with collections and another overnight rest break, easily with a cup of coffee in my hand. The cup of coffee is an essential, the machines are often quite slow.

Simon:
but you get €500 credit on your MAUT bill I believe.

Nope, you pay the fitting cost and that is the money gone, no credit to your Maut account.

If you cross on Monday night, on the Dover/Calais crossing, it won’t affect you much provided you don’t try driving through France or Germany until after the holiday driving ban is lifted. Belgium an Holland don’t have a ban, so you can drive through them to either the Luxembourg or German border, whichever will be the most useful to you.
If you want to use Lux’ for the cheap diesel etc, go to the truckstop at Habay for any time off you might need to take before the German driving ban is lifted. There will be quite a few Brits there, some waiting just for the ban to lift, some taking an overnight break before making an early start on Tuesday morning.
If you don’t want to go in through Lux’ on the way in, as you are going into the Rhine/Ruhr area, I would suggest the truckstop at Asten. Its about half an hour before you get to the Venlo border crossing at Straelen or Schwanenhaus, near to Eindhoven. As at Habay, there will be a few Brits there for the same reasons.

THE only ban next week in GERMANY is on Thursday 25th May ,this starts
on Wenseday night from Midnight through to Thursday night 2200hrs,
Be warned that in Luxemborg they have a ban/stop on vehicles that wish to transit enroute to Germany, when there is a driveing ban in force in Germany,
As regards a return load try looking at the sites here . as there is a good selection to choose . they are inthe section marked ““matching”” by FREIGHT

There is also a holiday in France on the 25th so the Luxembourg transit restrictions that Pete mentions for Germany also apply to traffic heading for France.

For German bound transit traffic the restriction is from 23:30 Wednesday through to 21:45 on Thursday.

For French bound transit traffic the restriction is from 21:30 Wednesday through to 21:45 Thursday.

Happydave, if you mean you will be off out again next weekend, when it is a Bank Holiday here then you have nothing to worry about as that Monday is not a holiday in Germany or France. There is a holiday in several countries on the 5th June, including Germany and that might affect you.

There is also a long thread started by myself and contributed to, by Coffee, Johny and Simon to do with the Maut

I had several problems this week trying to find machines, I tipped in Jackerath and had to load in Neuss and there are no where to sell the Maut.

I do have a spare Sonntag Genemigung though as my load was cancelled :stuck_out_tongue:
