German Road Numbers

Looking for a bit of info please

The “B”, “K” &“L” road numbers…

Is there any way to distinguish the best route for HGV.

Thanks

A roads are motorways.
B roads are similar to our A roads.
Have travelled on many K+L roads but am sure people with greater knowledge than me will tell you.

A = Autobahn = Motorway.
B = Bundesbahn = UKs A roads.
K = Kreis strasse = UKs B roads.
L = Land strasse = UKs C and unclassified.

It all comes down to who is responsible for the up-keep of that road.
A is the accepted shortened version of BAB, which is for Bundes AutoBahn.
B is, as mentioned above, for Bundesbahn.
The Bundes Republic of Deutchland is responsible for the up-keep of these roads.
The Kreis is similar to our county, and K roads are the responsibility of the county or Kreis.
The last type, L, is for Land, which is similar to district, the same applies.

As in the UK, although the National roads authority is responsible for the up-keep, the work is normally farmed out to the county where the work needs to be done.

if you are trying to use the best route to your
customer then get a decent ATLAS; THIS
has been mentioned be fore,but the best
ATLAS;MAP;for GERMANY IS THE FOLLOWING’
The Falk atlas for Bus AND Truckers,#
it will give all the information you require,
and has maps of countrys,other than germany,
costs €50,

Thanks for the info.

My “tasking” :astonished: is to:-

Deliver to 72379 Hechingen on a Friday
Collect 72172 Sulz-Glatt on a Sunday @ 13:30

I’m trying to get the local influentials to sort out a Sunday permit — in which case I was thinking Landau to Pirmasen (understand there is a nighttime ban on the B10)

The windy cross country route is Empfingen towards Strasbourg — saves about 50 miles — in real time that’s probably less than 10 mins

Pete — yup, I could buy the maps — I’m not looking to scrimp on it — just a bit of advice based on personal experience counts for so much more :slight_smile:.

Right the night ban is from 2200–0600HRS
ON the B10

If you get the permit?? and are doing the work regulary
then try and get a permit for a YEAR, it will be worth it,

as for the ATLASS it is the best one around for GERMANY
as it has so many extras that will make you job a doddle
like ADR-HAZ banned roads, all bridge heights from ,
the parking areas on all german motorways, plus a selection of
city maps and areas , in addition maps of country out side of
GERMANY; THATS WHY I tell peopel about this atlass.

Thanks

I’ll see if I can pick up this atlas

Simon:
B = Bundesbahn = UKs A roads.

It seems I made a slight error.

B actually = Bundesstrasse = UK A roads.

The Deutche Bundesbahn (DB) is the railway system. :blush: :blush:

I also see there are “D” Roads - are these less suitable for a truck than an “L”?

I can’t think of any D roads in Germany, but it’s fairly academic anyway.
As in the UK, just because a road is classified as a ‘C’ road doesn’t mean it’s going to be a narrow winding little lane. It could be a dual-carriageway, from being a down-graded major A road that’s been by-passed.
Use the Mk1 eyeball when you get there and use your own judgement on the suitability of a road for the truck you’re driving.
