I took a day-cabbed aircraft refuelling rig from Hampton Court to Tbilisi in 1998.
I went Dover-Calais, through Switzerland into Italy, Ancona-Patras, through Greece into Bulgaria then got the scabbiest ferry in the world from Burgas to Poti.
Then overland under heavy Police ■■■■■■ to Tbilisi.
I flew home via Moscow and was arrested at Sheremetyevo Airport because my Russian visa had expired and held overnight before being put on an Aeroflot flight to London.
The trip was expected to take ten days but ended up taking 21 due to various problems along the way.
Here’s my visa, proving the old adage that “the cruddier the country, the fancier the visa”
we’ve got a load left thursday night - i have a strong feeling it will be on it’s way back come monday morning, especially as it is equipment for the planned “georgia express” joint military exercises starting early september
really can’t see them still holding those, letting british and other armed forces in to play grown up paintball with the situation as it is
alright smarty pants, you still think it’s north of Florida depending on customs bullitt, the trip should take 14 days each way, plus fannying around down there to clear and tip
route used to be to go thru southern Russia until Chechnya kicked off proper around late 1994, then we went Turkey - there’s an LDD from around 1995 with a few of Willie Lambie’s motors
now it’s down to burgas and on a ferry, the way harry went with his refueller - much more “civilised”
