Generator

Shopping for a genny to power office in a trailer so, lappy printer lights ect. No nothing about generators so looking for recommendations.

From another forum I go on, Honda are meant to be pretty much the best. You won’t need a whopper to run the type of kit you mention, 1kw should be enough, it’s when you start using it for heat (or electric kettle, toaster etc) or for anything with a reasonably sized motor (vacuum cleaner, drill etc) that you’ll need to up the ante.

i have a 3.2 kva genny for when i am working up the yard, will power just about anything :open_mouth:

Yep, I’d say 3.2 kva would power pretty much most heavy duty electrical items, provided they weren’t all plugged in at once.

For the type of current draw Baz mentions (lappy, printer, lights) then I would quite possibly be looking at a solar panel and battery set-up.

Don’t buy anything you can’t get spares for ,trust me ,there are plenty made in China first time they go wrong they are scrap ! I see it all the time people come to a geni factory I haul for ,they think they’re expensive so go buy cheap ones instead ,not long after they are back trying to get it repaired ,the 3 cylinder kubota powered units are very good as they use very little fuel yet will run a compressor at the same time as lights and a 9 inch grinder, the older the better is normally best .

the kebab van by me has done away with the genny and has a similar set up ,runs fridge, telly ,meat cutter and all the lights etc
dont think its cheap though

I like the solar plan, may come down to cost though.

Agree about Honda, not the cheapest but the best!

I wouldn’t recommend buying one off the two blokes who came round in a van recently

I’ve previously dealt with Genplus in Whitby. Very helpful and knowledgeable.
