General strike Belgium Monday 30/1/2012

There will be a general strike next Monday in Belgium.

There will be no public transport and major cities, factories and industrial area’s will be blocked.

Will the important places like bars and frituurs still be open?

I should think so,all those placard waving strikers will need feeding and watering.

My missus works at SKF in Tongeren and they have been told that the Industrie Zone is likely to be blocked off by 4am Monday morning until 6pm.
There may well be blockades at border points too apparently, but not certain.
Hospitals will be working Sunday hours and cover and there will be little or no public transport.
Except for the roads, they will probably be quiet as most people will stay at home, unless they have a placard!

Yes,they are our Slovakian cousins :unamused:

Along with most Belgian companies on International work,we have a registered office in Bratislava.I think there are now around 12-15 trucks on SK plates with 20-odd SK driver’s.
Obviously they are on less money (fixed rate as opposed to our hourly rate) and they get all the long trips to south of France and Spain.
They work 3 weeks and then go home for a week,in a Sprinter minibus supplied by the company I might add.
When our boss built a new warehouse/offices a few years ago the basement was kitted out for the SK’s with 5 or 6 single bedrooms, showers, kitchen and laundry facilities.

As I said, most Belgian companies have trucks on SK plates,in fact there was a bit on the tv the other night about a protest in Zeebrugge by Belgian driver’s saying that it has gone far enough, and one driver said that since his firm (DD Trans) had now got so many Polish and Slovakian driver’s that he only gets national work and his salary is down by €5-800 a month!

glad ive got france next week lol

glad i wont be there till wednesday then!
