Hi all just going to start a new job on monday doing general haulage tramping. Iv got experience in containers fridges and a light curtainsiders is there any1 have any infomation that might be usefully to me thanks davy
Get a good book for when waiting around and don’t listen to the Drivers bull at RDC just go with the flow you’ll soon get hang of it
Make pals wae one of the old yins that have been there for 100 year. Get there mobile number and if you’re ever stuck with a problem phone them.
I still phone the same guy asking for advice or directions, his name is matt but i call him matt nav
Im looking forward to it but its like you want to make sure your doing the job right and no [zb] up
Im sure i will think 5/6month down the line why was a worried about it
You’ve made the right move by asking. Keep doing that. If in doubt take the time to ask as it’s better than driving around like a ■■■■ for hours ■■■■■■■ diesel away when you’re not sure

My new boss said his other tramper drivers will help me out if i get stuck with anything. Which is good.
Hopefully it will be easy enough to pick up things and settle in and get used to being away from the family
Is it based out of Lockerbie?
General Haulage is just that, it’s different, different products, different types of delivery places etc.
As long as you’ve got straps, orange plates if you’ve got ADR, and a spare tacho roll, I wouldn’t worry about the rest.
Usual tramping gear applies (including spare fuses if you use a sat nav)
I always thought all trucking was general haulage until I got on containers, try not to go back to general now if I can help it due to me being a lazy SOB

iv done fridge work which was easy enough and containers which was a ■■■■ case but f*nnies in office made it difficult. And the odd load of slate or news paper rolls. I think im thinking about it too much to be honest rather than just enjoying the experience. The guy im going to work for is friends with my old transport manager from when i was just a van assistant and he put a good word in for me i think. So im kinda feel i dont want to ■■■■ up n let ppl down.
im pretty sure once i settle and get to know the day in day out stuff i will be fine.
Vtrfire no its ■■■■■■■■■■■ m8
I used to work for a firm based in Cambuslang, M&H Logistics, good job, lots of regular firms so you learn the crack quite quickly, decent motors etc.
Like I said, there’s nowt to learn other than how to think for yourself in General Haulage as every job is unique really, any questions about load security, ask at the place where you’re loading how drivers normally do it and they’ll tell you, they’ve seen it hundreds of times.
M & H are in Cambuslang.
Im going in on sunday for few hours so i can get trained on different types of trailers just to give me a little advantage rather than getting thrown in at the deep end but hopefully i will just take it in my stride as well as no being shy to ask for help if need be

Of course, that’s what I mean
It begins with C doesn’t it and then the rest sounds drunk
