as soon as i sat on the bunk to read the paper, or open a bottle of wine, the bloody thing went all over the road.

newmerman.
you must run at some seriously heavy weights if you have to set off in 1st in DAF.
and the example i gave, was just that. an example.
itâs very difficult to tell someone what gears to use because it all depends on the weight of the load, and the terrain.
in a scania, iâd always have to use 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. but a DAF has always been comfortable starting from 3rd to 4th, or 2nd to 4th.
The bloke that showed me was Dafâs top demonstrator in Holland, he showed me a load of charts showing clutch temperatures and the increase that occured with evry higher starting gear, heat contributes to wear. The first gear start off is only literaaly to get moving, just lift the clutch pedal, let the electronics take care of the throttle, as soon as youâre moving you grab second and give it some right boot.
The bloke from Renault said exactly the same thing, but then when Renault switched from the B18 to the ZF box, they recommended using 2nd low to pull away

A 13spd or 18spd Fuller will, allegedly, take off like a rocket in high range crawler, it is also rumoured that you can do burn outs in this gear with all the diffs locked up on an MAN 8 wheeler if the roads are slightly damp
i t is âapparentlyâ possible to drift on damp roundabouts ,but being a sensible upstanding proffessional driver i can niether confirm or deny this

It is the crawler gear, but in high range, itâs a little higher than 4th and lower than 5th, but the beauty of it when used for a fast getaway is that youâre already in high range, so slotting into 5th takes no time at all as you donât have to wait for the range change, allegedly

to many muppets on here these days, who forgot what it was like to be green at the job, and were born with the knowledge on all things trucking related. the minute someone in this game claims to know it all, is the minute you know theyâre full of s h i t!!!
to many people easily forget what its like to be the new kid on the block. iâve being doing it no for 20 years, but never roped and sheeted a load in my life, so this would be the first place iâd come for advice. fortunately i know there are some real good people on here that would tell me what i need to know, as opposed to the recent influx of pretend âtrucking godsâ that really havnât got a â â â â â â clue all to easy to spout a load of old bollox, actually doing it, is something very different.
