Wheel Nut:
Weekend work is paid extra and they are working towards the 37 hour week like the French
Surely if you’d be working a 37 hour week you’d never be working weekends, or Thursdays and Fridays for that matter? I’ve never been able to find out about this 30odd hour week the French apparently have. Every driver of a French truck I’ve spoken to seems to work pretty much the same as every other international driver from other European countries, ie full days 5 or 6 days a week, which would ofcourse be way over 37 hours. Unless the 37 hour thing is calculated like the wtd as in that only driving and crossed hammers count towards it, so whilst offocially doing 37 hours your really doing realistic hours closer to 50-60odd in which case its a totally pointless excercise and if its 37 spread over hours, how do they even make the trucks pay their way? as thats only slightly over 7 and a half hours total work per day on a five day week so even if all you did was drive and nothing else, you’d only be doing 6 and a half hours driving a day, then parking up for the night, surely this can’t be the case?

Do you like Premiums ? Supposed to be home, most weekends.
Money is scarey, though. They don’t like to tell you much over the phone.

a lass i used to work with applied for a job at transalliance (her dad works there).
basically the moneys crap (sje was taking a paycut of 500 hundred quid) you didn’t get your own motor until one becomes avalible for the enitial period and it was trailer swops near ashford.

Dont worry about hijacking posts, its all relevant with the East Midlands Massive
since my last post ive been told if you want euro work with them you contact the office in france but they base you at hilton cuz your english all to do with english and french regulations ie tax license and so on.so are we having a east midlands masive get together at the peek show this month
I reckon the peek show sounds a good plan, I might use my bike and a tent.
Last peek show I went to was in Antwerp
i used to have a mate work for them when they were runnning rhd low cab volvo’s.
he said the job was ok and the money was about right but could be better, the main thing he didn’t like was the way they worked the weekends away, he would work all week, monday to thursday sort of thing then they would tell him he is shipping out on friday with a delivery in munich or somewhere else for 8am monday morning.
i don’t know if he is still there as i haven’t seen him for a number of years.
i will ask the next trans alliance driver i see heading to calais on a saturday morning.
Lots of good and bad points in this thread.
I am going to be the TruckNet Guinea pig
I had an interview last week, the boss seems laid back, the traffic office was calm and the drivers I saw seemed happy enough!
It was said that a lot of drivers who came, didnt want to go to France and opted for trailer swaps in Purfleet and Ashford.
The money as a package doesnt sound too frightening, it is made up of bonuses and salary, tax free meals allowance and continental subsistence.
Weekend work is paid extra and they are working towards the 37 hour week like the French
The division I will work for is based in Bordeaux so will involve a bit of North West Spain and Southern France. The other alternatives are based in the UK or in Le Havre doing local collection and deliveries and trailer swaps.
Occasional trips to Poland and Czech Republic.
I will keep you posted
Hey Malc, will you be driving a British or French regd truck? If it’s French did they mention whether you will need to do the French safety course (FIMO or FCOS) ?
Well they are either on the ball, or desperate
I got a letter confirming my contract and joining instructions today.
I also got an application form for ID Card.
Getting my ADR too, by the look of it
good luck mate
