just after a bit of advice, don’t normally do Scotland, so could anyone tell me how long in driving time it would normally take to complete the above route?
About two days by by novice reckoning
I would think …
Gateshead to Edinburgh = 2 1/2
Edinburgh to glasgow =1
Glasgow to penrith = 2 1/2
Penrith to Wrexham = 3
Grand total = 8 hrs driving.
Days work.
I was thinking it could be done in a day, but one of our other drivers reckons its only possible to get as far as tebay services.

Check your maths Alex. I think that’s 9 hours.
Ken.
Don’t forget to take into account traffic/waiting times/delays/breaks/accidents etc etc.
You could probably do it in a day without any hold ups. I think the longest drive which would set you back at least 3 hours would be the drive from Gateshead to Edinburgh. (Although I don’t know what the road is like).

oopps sorry yes my fault but I would say that is a steady days work as long as you don’t stop in every café and get a crack on.

Cut straight down to Abington from Edinburgh. Much quicker than heading M8 towards Glesga.

Even easier as long as you dont get stuck behind a driver doing 40mph all the way as a lot of the A1 is still single carriage ( although a lot more duel now ) & watch for the speed cameras
From what I have heard no cameras on the A68 if you fancy that road
