well I’ve spent the morning ringing around agencies to get an idea what the job market is like at the minute, the best response I’ve had is from Drivers Direct, who say they are happy to take me on, starting off doing 7.5T work, some multi-drop work, and to get back to them when I’ve finished my CPC, and they will get me started!
The way I look at it, I’m currently working nights through the week and days at the weekend, for £6.10 an hour, I’m locked in an office, or a portacabin, and I’ve gotta pay for my own security license. So even doing crap multidrop work for £7.50-£8 an hour, I’m still making quite a bit more than I am now, and I get to be awake in the daytime!
But more than anything, I’m going to be getting that experience which seems to be required by every halfway decent job going, so I’m going to bite the bullet and do some 7.5t multi-drop whatever they need, just to get my foot in the door… Haven’t even started driving and things are already looking positive! Every minute of every day all I can think of is getting back behind the wheel, and I’ll be made up when it actually happens!
or am I being too optimistic?
It’s not being over-optimistic at all. Just take whatever work they can give you, if you do reasonably well there will come a time when they need someone for Class 2 work and nobody else is available and they’ll be sure to consider you.
well as long as I do my best, and always be available for them, I think I should be able to keep my foot in that door… Also before the end of the year, I want to save up some dough and get my class 1 passed, cause I would much rather do long haul work than skippin around town with pallets of food for sainsbury’s express shops and the like… but if this is how I get there, this is what I’m gonna do!
It’s always a good idea to get a Class 1, it vastly increases your chances of getting work. Just learn as much as you can while on the road, ask other drivers for advice, watch others doing their thing, just look on this period of your life as a continual learning process.
Just take the crap they give u its all learning and it dont take long to prove yourself once you make a good impression your in and you can start picking and choosing get a good rapor with the agency so that they think of you first after your jobs ask them for any feed back shows your conciensious and want to do a good job good luck with it all

Well I was booked in for my mod2 on the 23rd, however I checked a few minutes ago and there was a cancellation on friday so I took it… shaved myself 10 days of waiting for it, which is 10 less days in my current less than desirable employment situation…
Gonna go dig out my theory test book and get myself back up to scratch…
Good thing I’m not superstitious about friday the 13th n all that mess… lol
