Furthest

bowser:
i just google mapped manchester england to the southwest corner of kazakstan and strangly it did it for me :open_mouth:

dont know what the hell they base their info on because it says you can do it in 4 days 17 hours… :open_mouth:

and i think i know the transport manager that would expect you to do it aswell … :unamused: 5719 mls in just over 4 days what the hell ■■

Is that with 11 off after 9 driving each day?? :wink:

Should this not be Furthest / Most hostile and primitive… and when the trip was done. :open_mouth:
Clearly a 15000 km trip in the 60’s early 70’s would have been a far more difficult mission than let’s say a 20,000 km trip from UK - Salalah - UK in the 80’s that was neither difficult or hostile. The furthest could end up being a case of;
“mine is bigger than yours”

I think the most primitive ive been to is Glasgow :astonished:

Bradford was the place I felt most ill at ease, asked directions at a police station they "advised 'me to park outside their window so they could make sure I was ok :confused:

I seem to remember being told, Nick Whale (aka Rodders) took a truck to Vladivostok, the truck was to go on to Japan, IIRC he couldnt actualy drive the last 100kms and the truck had to go on a train. This was only back in the 90s.
Not sure on kms etc.

Hello again john.d.m,

I’m pretty sure that this relates to a company called ‘Market Expo’ who were based a Dunkeswell airfield near Honiton. I’m fairly sure Nick either drove for them or was connected in some way. Their servicing & repairs were done by Heathpark Commercials, where my Dad had his done & my Uncle was working at the time.

Thier work related to exhibition stands & trade shows & they went all over U.K & Western Eurpoe, & as you mention Eastern Europe & on into the former Russian states. IIRC they would run out to Eastern Europe with two artics & where road conditions & regulations (lack of) allowed they used a dolly set-up that let them put two trailers behind one tractor!! Their trailers were ‘high volume’ box vans & I dont think they would have had that much weight up. Now I’ve never seen this set-up personally but have no reason to think it was B.S? Would be interesting if anybody could confirm it?

All the best, Andrew Stone.

To the best of my knowledge, the furthest Kepstowe ever went was to Irkutsk, 5052 miles from London. The late Gordon Jones did that one.

The furthest I have ever driven was on a roadshow. I went from Haywards Heath to Haywards Heath, via Geneva, Zurich, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moscow (again), Kiev, Bucharest, Istanbul and Belgrade, and it took 107 days, or three-and-a-half months. The furthest I have driven from London is Tbilisi, Georgia.

I miss the long distance stuff, doubt I will ever do anything like it again. :frowning:
