Yep, pretty good summary.
Although in fairness to him and despite everything he writes I actually don’t think he’s that dumb per se, he just needs to get this chip off his shoulder that everything is one big conspiracy against him.
He’s worked as agency for donkey’s years. If you still haven’t figured out how the politics work and what you need to do to make sure your phone keeps ringing after all this time then sorry to be blunt but you’ve got to be a bit dumb. To be a successful agency driver it’s 80% politics and 20% doing the job. If you get the politics bit wrong by saying/doing the ‘wrong’ thing that goes against the party line then your time at that client will be short-lived. Most agency drivers fail at the politics. You could be the best driver in the world but if your face doesn’t fit and you’re unable to strike that key balance between being friendly, helpful, flexible vs. making a stand when you’re asked/told to do something that you don’t want to do, irrespective of it being legal or illegal, then you’ll quickly find that your phone stops ringing. Get the balance right and you’ll be in all the time as they know you can do the job and you’ll build up a mutual trust and respect of what’s acceptable and what isn’t.
Winseer thinks that doing a good job by (what he believes is) helping them out with “premium uplift” shifts is sufficient to keep him in, but it’s clear he’s completely failing at the politics and is ruffling feathers everywhere he goes by arguing back all the time.
He will never learn as he’s one of those people who believes he’s always right and it’s everyone else at fault. He’ll still be ranting about this [zb] next year and the year after, and the years after that, with no change. There is no helping some people.
At least THAT makes some sense at last. I’ve clearly been fiddled, busted, and abused by POLITICS and POLITICIANS in the workplace for years and years, now you mention it.
FFS I just wanted to be paid week in, week out for driving a truck without crashing it, doing a good enough job so the firm makes enough money to keep me on “gainfully employed”.
If I can do all that, but ■■■■ my fellow workers off all the time, then over time the “popular face fits types” will eventually all end up at the same firm, which suddenly folds when there is a general business failure like we may well be approaching fast as we speak…
Firms should stop worrying about “Politics” and simply look at “which workers make/save/earn them the most money”.
We’re not in a beauty contest.
I didn’t moan whilst working at various venues. The first I knew about others moaning about me was after I got back-stabbed, not before.
Total scumbags for not telling me to my face beforehand, as if I were ever a physical threat to them?! How can anyone be so intimidated by an over 50 that they’d rather back-stab, grass-up, and bad mouth from afar, rather than just out with it? - I would have complied to “Keep my job” if my actions were ever getting on anyone’s ■■■■ enough!
I only moaned when I got robbed blind by politics and lies though. What did I even HAVE to moan about whilst employed at any venue■■?
If I broke into anyone’s house and nicked 8 grand off them - I’d expect to be doing time for it, or kicked over to within an inch of my life if I’d nicked anything from any ex-forces types - Right?
“Busting people out of their jobs” when they’ve actually done you no harm whatsoever - is nothing short of total hostility.
That such hostility even exists in peacetime - makes me wonder if we’re not as divided a country as ever…
Let’s see what happens when half of ALL jobs are gone by the end of this year OR the Unions can be well-and-truly broken in this country once and for all. There’s not enough work for both sides here, excepting the forelorn hope of a ‘v’ shaped recovery that looks as likely to happen as the completion of Brexit at this point (This country and the EU - are mutally exclusive: ‘Brexit Completed’ brings down the EU, Brexit left un-done - lets the EU survive, and forces the UK to collapse instead…)
2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and so far in 2020 - the Remainers have had the upper hand with their lies and deceit. Time for the worm to turn at long last, I reckon!
The entire reason the system doesn’t work is that the rules get bent every time it suits the authorities, ignored every time it suits the authorites, and rigidly enforced ONLY once the authorities get removed from power!
If agencies are now found to have aided and abetted client firms into mass fraud - then the agencies rather than the clients will end up taking the bullet for it. Once the agencies are gone, the client firms will be offering more full time contracts, but at ever-less friendly terms. THAT has already started, with hourly rates for newbies on full time contracts being offered less favorable than they were even a year ago.
With no “seasonal spikes in demand” likely to be forthcoming this year, there won’t even be a need for “Christmas Run-up” this year, nor “Holiday Cover”, since most of us will be having staycations as well.
Oh how short-termist of everyone to worry about “Their Today” instead of everyone else’s future!
What happened to good old traditional “Them and Us” rather than “Them setting Rank-and-File against each other” as we now seem to have?
There’s no floor on anything now - if we snigger at each other’s demise, rather than show at least SOME concern that the hallowed rules are being ridden rough-shod over time and time again…
Wot you gonna do if your firm says “We’re cutting your pay 30%…50%…80%… If you don’t agree - you’re at home on sick pay based on the new lower rates…” Think the Union will protect you from THAT?
Think the Union calling everyone out will get it overturned come the day? The Union are likely to be the ones who signed that off at the board level!!
“We’ll appoint a third Union Rep to the board, but you need to get this new pay deal past the general staff first…”
“I’ll have trouble getting this past the members with these strings Guv…”
“We ARE making it worth your while - are we not?”
“Erm. Yes. Will my personal pension rights be protected?”
“Sure they will. Here’s your new contract right here. Just for you. The ONLY one that benefits from this deal of ours.”
“Ok Guvnor, I’ll see what I can do.”
… “Members one and all - Firm says we either take this deal, or they have to shut down the plant. Are we going to take it?”
Lies and deceit - Monetized.
No enforcement of any REAL common laws to stop it.
