TWO men have been charged on suspicion of going equipped with intent to steal, after police made a number of arrests last weekend in connection with fuel thefts.
Daniel Sula, aged 19, of no known address, and Gheorghe Pavalachi, aged 22, also of no known address, appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 2 September. They were bailed to appear at Wellingborough Magistrates’ Court on 16 December 2013.
A 23-year-old man and a 47 year-old man, both from Peterborough, were also arrested. They have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Ali Farr, from Northamptonshire Police, said: “We have dealt with a number of incidents recently where thieves have stolen diesel from lorries parked overnight in lay-bys,
“As well as making four arrests, we seized two vehicles and recovered more than 1000 litres of diesel during the weekend, and we will continue to crack down on those who commit these crimes.
“Thieves have been targeting the main routes in the county, in particular the A14, and I would encourage drivers, wherever possible, to park in official truck stops rather than an isolated lay-by.
“I would also urge anyone who sees anything suspicious around parked HGVs on any of the county’s roads, or anyone who is offered cheap fuel, to call the police.
