Fuel Strike *UPDATE*

It loses it’s humour when you use the word “Request”. If you read through it carefully, The “Employer” hasn’t made a “Request” of the “Driver” has he? Even if he had the driver has the option to refuse…hasn’t he?
But I take on board how employers conduct themselves and it aint good for industrial relationships.

Of course he can refuse. But only so many times until it is then justified to dismiss him without any recourse at the Tribunal.

And relationships work two ways. If you make it clear you are prepared to strike, then be not surprised if an employer will not just roll over to your demands.

Just because the hours regs might have been suspended for the job doesn’t affect the existing long standing contractual hours as agreed to be worked between employer and employee.First is the hours agreed to be worked then ‘optional’ overtime.

The last sentence seems to be a case of old fashioned intimidation and victimisation for union activeties. There was a time when that alone would have been enough to cause an even bigger, longer and more widespread strike than the one that the employee in question had been prepared to be involved with previously. :smiling_imp:

It will be interesting to see how many of the “it’s all about hours and elf n safety” brigade take advantage of the relaxation to coin in some overtime :unamused: :unamused:

I did read somewhere that one day of panic buying netted the government an extra £34,000,000 in various duties and taxes on fuel, could have been a ploy to balance the books by the chancellor :open_mouth: :unamused:

Yes an extra 34 mill in before the end of the financial year does make you wonder !

What are you both on about? This countrys budget runs to BILLIONS of pounds daily. £34m is nothing. Sorry to upset the conspiracy ideas but it just doesn’t stack up.

Yes you’re right but the daily billions is a minus ! the 34mill is a small plus

Find it funny how the reason they were going on strike in the first place was for ‘safety’ reasons. Moaning about the hours they are having to work amongst other things. Yet they have relaxed the hours laws temporarily to allow them to drive more? I just don’t get it. Wonder if the lure of some o/t will make it ok!!! And they say money has nothing to do with it.
