is a crying shame that this most valuable of commodities should be so cheap .
there is no disincentive to usage at these prices , and cheap fuel subsidises inefficiencies in industries ( particularly ours ) and removes the onus to search for alternatives . it provides an artificial stimulus to stockmarkets , further widening the gap between those who earn their wealth and those who benefit from unearned wealth . this feeds through to unsustainable consumerism and encourages more housing speculation . in short cheap oil keeps the blue collar worker poor and the rich richer .
oil is far to precious to waste on fuel to move plastic tat from china around . it needs to be conserved for its vital uses manufacturing chemicals and materials , and …
its most vital role : manufacturing fertilisers .
no amount of comfrey and organic manures will save the planet from mass starvation when oil runs out .
In reply to the OP, we are here in Aberdeenshire. Thousands laid off from those with 6 figure paycheques to office juniors.
Transport had taken a big hit too, just when the local fleets, Craib, Lawson etc. were getting on with updating after the last crisis.
Not to mention the loss of tax to the government coffers!
Of course we are getting ripped off with fuel but reckon I am still in front with almost 9 years free.

Talking about 3 star. If we wanted to load say 2000 galls of it we would load 1000, 2 star and 1000, 4 star and hey presto!

Blimey who wants a load of oil based chemicals chucked on their food.If I wanted to do that I’d put diesel or melted plastics on my dinner myself.
Oil is cheap because, like coal there’s plenty of it and it’s not going to run out anytime soon. While people like driving proper cars with proper engines among all the other uses for fossil fuels. The problem is that everyone has listened to the green nazis like boredwivdrivin so now they can’t sell enough of an already high supply product that needs to be cheap to make it viable to use.To which the answer of the government is lets continue to tax it at more than its worth so people use even less.Just to keep those like boredwivdrivin happy who want to leave it in the ground because they think its going to run out,and/or cook the planet and they want to chuck it all over their dinner instead of using it for the job its designed for by burning the stuff.
Fuel isn’t cheap now, people just forget how quickly the price of it went up. Another thing to think about is that the wholesale price of oil has dropped by two thirds - has the price of fuel dropped by that? Not even nearly! But every time the wholesale price rises, it is passed straight on to us. Finally just think how much profit the oil companies were making when the price of oil was at its peak, considering they can still afford to sell it at two thirds of the price!

Remove the duty and the VAT on the duty then it all makes much more sense in being a brilliant value for money fuel just as it always was.
But that would upset the luddites who want to leave it in the ground.Because they think it upsets the weather or they think it will run out thereby stopping them from putting it on their food.

That done it, Q a 2000 word reply on how this wouldn’t happen and how it’s all the fault of Thatcher, Socialists and even the Normans and the Saxons seem to be getting the blame for many things recently.

Evidence shows that we humans have acclerated global warming thanks to all the fossil fuels we use. Even if we ignore the climate angle, we can’t ignore the health risks that stem from burning fossil fuels.

The climate angle would depend on whether anyone believes the government funded ‘science’ which, unsurprisingly, doesn’t prove any global warming acceleration whatsoever.
While whatever the risks then surely the whole world would cease all oil production.Rather than those who’ve been shouting the loudest like Vince Cable and Ed Davey among other green ■■■■ believers like Nicola Sturgeon running around sorting out how best to get it out of the ground and flogging it to the highest bidder on world markets.Let alone the idea of leaving it the ground so that instead of burning it we can save it to chuck on our food.

Don’t think anyone really knows about world climates and what’s going happening and what’s happened on earth.
They have only been keeping records a 100 years.
The worlds evolution will happen over 1000s of years.
