Fuel efficiency.what limit in you company

I harsh brake every time I get loaded with stone or shingle, deliberately; It levels the load off.

I’m with you Harry. Idling is the biggest load of bs going. One jumpstart in a 2 year turn around of our trucks would iron out the idling fuel saved over the same period. I play the game for 2 reasons. One I don’t pay for the call outs, and two, I get more points on dynafleet. And points make prizes

For one truck, its not a lot but imagine if you have 100 trucks idling. Those costs do add up.

I’ve always been told you can’t judge a driver on mpg. Too many variables weight, runs , truck performance etc

We use 5 key parameters out of dozens and dozens parameters, they only use 5 to judge you.

Harsh accelerations, increasing speed by more than 7m/s
Harsh braking, decreasing speed by more than 7m/s
Coasting has to be at least 15% of your day
Idling has to be only 5% of your day
Overspeed has to be less than a minute of your total day. Anything above 55 is marked as overspeed.

I find idling hard to achieve. I’m day shift so jumping about city centres. I switch my engine off every single time even if I’m stopped for a few seconds and I still can’t get green on idling.

Coasting can also be hard to achieve on certain runs.

The same can be said about jump starts and starter motors

We don’t have any targets where I work.

Excessive idling would be our biggest problem as when you park under the machine to get loaded with scrap, if the scrap is light they pound the machine into the metal to get you to 44T. When they are pounding down the metal into the trailer if you didn’t have the engine running to keep the air up you would soon have the mud guards hitting the ground and potentially bugging up something. If the engine is running the air suspension can cushion the blow and keep the unit off the ground.

Who comes up with all these parameters, and have they ever driven a lorry?
Oh, they studied “humanities” at college, and took a gap year. :unamused:

When one is consistently using 20% more fuel than the rest then yes, you can.

That is a very narrow minded statement Conor, straight out of the management for dummies textbook. If a truck is operating inside the M25 during the rush hour at full weight, it’s highly likely to use more fuel per mile than a half weight vehicle, on the A14 at 11am. The only way your statement holds water, is two drivers doing the same job together, at the same time, in identical vehicles

I used to drive for a company(40 ish units) that paid $100 a month if you average or above on fuel economy and engine idle …WELL …the fleet were Volvos owned and maybe 8-9 Petes and KWs on PACLEASE.
At first I had a Volvo the only one without an APU ,the petes all had APU and all but 2 KWs so I was near last on the Volvo list( put up in driver room for all to see) but above most Petes and well above the KWs.
So for 6 months I received the bonus then a new start wanted a Volvo or he would not start wae the company so him being a Canadian and myself a mere foreign worker seems to came intae place.
Well I was given a newer Kw 13sp /C15 cat and no APU so in the summer I ran the air con and the winter the engine ran near sun -Thursday without turned off(bunk heater was not all that good) and I was well up the kw list but below the ave so no bonus …even complaining to management about it being unfair .yeah whinning brit I know lol …ie most o the fleet ran south into the states on highway work …myself and the other kw (no apu) ran on LTL work out and back up into the north a lot on gravel etc but no joy …■■■■ it up buttercup .
taking into account the time off for a major injury I must have lost about $1500 . and they wondered why some off us got really pd off a big difference between a straight run down to texas and back interstate all the way and a run up to grande prairie with 20 drops and 5-8 drops home on everything from hwy1 to gravel/dirt roads. :unamused: :unamused:
