First of all I had an interesting encounter the other day I was offered by an unknown man to let him clone my fuel card for £200. He explained to that it would of course be impossible to be linked to me however I declined on the offer. But my question is Do many driver allow there fuel cards to be cloned? And is it really impossible to get linked back to you? And would you let someone if they asked you?
I doubt many drivers allow this. But some morons will.
Given that the card could have been cloned at any point it will be hard to be linked to you. Fuel cards stupidly don’t use chip and pin always. I’d guess they then sell these cards to dodgy hauliers both in and outside the UK.
And no I wouldn’t let someone do this if asked. At best I’d get £200 and at worst I’d go to prison. You’d need to be a total moron.
I wold say it would be traced straight back to you as that was the card issued to you and they will have a record of that. and no I wouldn’t allow it, why chop off the hand that feed’s you.

This is why I declined I just find it hard to believe people would actually do this
Just because…
You are issued a fuel card and it’s in your possession during working hours doesn’t mean it couldn’t be lifted and cloned without your knowledge. I admit that that scenario would be rare. If it came to court a driver could defend himself by saying that yes he was issued the card but has no knowledge of it being duplicated whilst the cards weren’t in his immediate environment.
If you really wanted to score a couple of hundred against your firm, there are far easier and less detectable methods.

Which fuel cards don’t use chip and pin? I’ve not seen one without for the best part of a decade now. Back in the day Allstar, Keyfuels and Shell cloning was rife. The scammer only needed an HiCo LoCo MSR206 and an old expired card. Any company that uses a large amount of agency drivers and doesn’t have on-site refuelling or does a lot of tramping work were the usual targets.

A few years ago there was a member of staff prosecuted for cloning cards at a fuel station near me. Theres your defense if you take the card in. Or something added to the terminal like they do atms.
I think it would be very easy to defend court though I expect it would be the sack and I don’t see how its worth it for that
As said, there are other ways to earn a few quid…years ago ( here i go again ) we used to call them
Plusses
…remember them…anyway…i had a very close encounter in Greece…i bought a cloned card from a driver i was running with…so i went off to fill my tanks…he ran to the border and i said i would meet him there …the idea was what ever fuel i bought…i only paid him half price…so being clever, i thought, if i fill my belly tank up…i could tell him i bought 400 litres ( for the price of 200…yet i would have 1000 ) so thats what i did …but i handed over the card…then the garage suddenly handed me the phone, and the card owner started asking akward questions…security ones at that to which i never had a clue…so handed the phone back…said everything is ok …next minute i was surrounded by police…as luck would have it, one of them said his sister lived in London, and perhaps i knew her…ha ha i pretended i did by asking if she had black curly hair…most greek women did…lol…and i said i had seen her…bloody hell…these foreigners think london is a small village…anyway…he offered me a deal…pay the garage…and disappear…so i emptied my wallet of everything i had…including foreign notes…i was around £100 short…so had to hand over my keys…and hitch hike to the border with BG…took me around 3 hours in baking heat…but luckily he was still there …loaned me the money…took me back…and the job was done…i did however tell him i couldnt get any fuel…so was still quids in…we ran together…and i had a draw in Turkey…and repaid him and that was that…but just goes to show…mind you, that was the first and the last i ever used a card like that…
Never heard of anyone doing this, but should be easy enough especially with UKfuels as they don’t ways need a pin. Garages often don’t even check the reg against the card one.
As for anyone doing this, would suspect any drivers not directly employed wouldnt ever get found out or even a truck which isnt assigned to a single driver. In those cases theres a higher chance of this happening.

Last job I had they used Allstar and it wasn’t chip and pin, it was replaced but I cant remember using a pin with it when I fueled up.
Let him clone the card…take the £200. Then immediately phone the card company to get the card stopped as you have had it “stolen”

Our Keyfuels cards have chip & PIN on them - but of all the places I’ve ever used them only one (Crawley Crossing/M1 J13) actually reads it. Everywhere else it is swiped through the magnetic stripe reader and I sign a paper slip.

I was going to say exactly this, good job I read all the posts before saying it [emoji3]
We flip flop between uk fuels and certas depending on who’s cheapest that week. There’s only one place that asks me to put my PIN number in, Blyth services, all the others just swipe it and I sign the printout.
Years ago (before PINs and terminals) a bloke offered me £50 for my credit card…the deal being that we would go to a phone box, I would report the card lost and cancel it, and he would run away and start spending with it.
I didn’t take him up on it.
