Just out of interest, does your firm pay a fuel bonus, if so how does it work please. Cheers
Where i used to work they paid it quarterly by the telematics results, one driver one lorry, i got the best actual fuel consumption in the depot and one of the best in the whole fleet, yet never saw any fuel bonus till the last quarter before i jacked it (other reasons), whilst others getting 2 or more mpg less got theirs without fail.
Its utter cobblers and i’d avoid such schemes like the plague.
Not this one but one tipper firm did and they’re notorious for rushing about. I did get the odd bonus but it was difficult, being an asthmatic MAN auto on a lot of Oxford city work. The Scania drivers got bonuses more often and hated having to drive any of the MANs as it knocked their averages down. Looking closely, this was reflected in the way the fleet was looked after by the drivers; The MANs looked rougher and were certainly scruffier inside.
Juddian, you got the best fuel consumption but if it was on telematics what were the rest of the scores like? Its possible to do dire on some of the things but still get good fuel consumption. We use Microlise and if you’re not getting a score of 1.00 and all As you’re not even making it in the top 10.
Ours is done on telematics, you get scored out of 10 on harsh braking, harsh acceleration, idling, and over revving. This gives you an average score out of 10, above 8 you get the bonus.
I agree it’s heavily flawed though, but ATEOTD it’s an extra grand a year for nothing really.
Interesting reply’s, thanks.
Ours is worked out on the score from the “wonderful” Scania score, need to get above 75 then you qualify for an extra £1 per day paid quarterly.
As previous some are getting an extra £1000 per year…worth doing…£1 per day…

My problem was that i’d let her overrun for miles if possible (not coasting out of cog or dipping the manual clutch, scanny 3 pedal, or any of that rubbish), seeing as all overrun is free but for some reason the machine didn’t like free running…possible also that by driving the auto box in manual and keeping the revs low (to save fuel) at all times the machine didn’t like that either, either way its utter cobblers.
I have no idea about scores, the system was Vemis, i only know the actual average fuel consumptions as posted.
We work a 3 tier system ,am sure my targets are
10mpg =£200
9.5mpg=£150
9.0mpg=£100,
less than 9 zero,
paid out every 3 months
The ridged drivers are 13mpg down the in stages etc
as far as am concerned its money for nothing

Ours is very similar in that the more we achieve over the basic target the more we get but ours is a group one so we all get the same bonus but the agency drivers are grouped in with us aswell although they don’t get paid a bonus.

That system is also flawed, unless of course you’re running at 44ton for the majority of the time.
At our place the loads vary greatly, 28ton of paper, with a load of crisps as reload, often running 60-80 miles empty to get to reloads. Some days I get 8.5-9mpg, others I get 11+

We had that at Intermontana.
MAN said the 372 needs 36 per 100 km and saving got split
70% the Driver and 30% the Company.
When i asked why that Way i got said Company gets after 3 Year more for the Lorry as if we drive full Trottle.
We stood normally between 29 and 32 per hundred km without expensive Electronic
BUT
Always full Weight over the Alps between Italy and Germany.
with the Bonus i got,…
Only Fly First Class
2 or more Day off and British Airways for a Coffee and bit Shopping to London or Air Lingus to Dublin.
All my Wages stood on the Bank. Lots of Kilometer and low fuel consumption added up. Got paid Monthly into Bank and Fuel saving got Cash on the Window!
Also got Bonus for finding Garages where Fuel was cheaper and avoiding Tool Roads.
