Went to register for FTS driving agency in Rainham Essex on Friday. Did the usual questionaire but then came to section 6, entitled “Careless driving”. To my amazement they expected me to sign a declaration making me liable for the first £2000 excess of any accident deemed to be my fault !!.As if it isnt stressful enough dealing with a 23t lorry in London, you now have to worry that any scrape that appears on the lorry, could be deemed by some desk jockey as your fault, and to cough up your months wages please.Must get a nice little discount from the insurance companies if they can say, don’t worry we’ll pay the first 2k excess, well ,the poor sap behind the wheel will anyway. I asked the interviewer if she has to go buy a new keyboard if she spills her coffee over it,but surprise, surprise , she didn’t. Told em to poke the job,and left. Is this common nowadays, or is this some shyster agency mugging people off?
Firstly, well done for walking away. This is what THEY pay insurance for, if they can’t afford to pay then their business model is wrong and they shouldn’t be trading.
Unfortunately not all drivers exhibit your amount of spine and will happily sign for crap like this.
Edit to add; btw o/p loved your work in pre revolution France, good stuff!
£land are the same £500 if you put a dent in unit/trailer…
