Frustrated with steel and loading it!

Okay so I have been at a company which took me on 2 weeks ago, I passed in March and I am only grateful that an actual company took me on, all was well the first few days, the following week they put me in my own lorry a Y reg Scania 220 10 tonner, got over the initial shock of the extended bed and gradually got into it, only to be confronted by steel every single day, I seem to be waiting around more than driving and I just can’t get to grips with how I want it loaded and then the sheeting of it just tops me over the edge and I think to myself, I passed this test to drive not to mess around with all this other stuff, and it just frustrates me… I just want to drive :frowning:

That’s what being a driver is, it’s part of the job.
Ask one of the older guys to show you how to sheet it properly once mastered you’ll look at it after and think that looks neat.
As for the loading that will come with experience and a bit of help. Don’t be afraid to ask there is always someone who will help, tell them your new it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

What beetee says.

As the other 2 said.

If all you want to do is drive go get a bus ticket

Congrats on the job, I seem to remember you asking about agencies a few weeks back…

But yeah. Waiting, loading, chatting… It’s part and parcel.

Get a good book. Get an mp3 player or some CD’s, and just enjoy yourself. I’ve got so much reading done waiting at Tesco :L

Loading is part and parcel of the job! Of course we all get into it because we enjoy driving, but at the end of the day once the load is on your truck your taking responsibility for it until delivery.

I’m in my second week of my new job and the load security part I actually don’t mind…it’s all gaining new experiences for me. Majority of my collections have been at timber yards and builders merchants where I’m being loaded with anything from timber & decking to drain pipes and gutters etc.

If there’s anything your unsure of just be sure to ask another driver, or any of the lads that load you…if your not happy with how something is being loaded then don’t be afraid to let them know.

One thing I have found is that near enough every driver in the working world is more than willing to help and give advice, whereas I used to think that your just left to struggle on your own, not the case though!

Generally less time loading, securing on CE. But certainly not always the case.

Pete

■■■■ it up and show some metal.

Never work with steel or builders . end of .
You have experience now , tell them to stick their job and get something decent

Its part of the job, have you been to Tata yet? They want their stuff strapped their way.
