Hi all. Thought I’d let anyone who is planning to get Cat C in the west mids know how I got there. Recently passed my Cat C and am now CPC certified too. Thank God for that.
Starting off with the medical, I had a decent experience with “Doctors on wheels”. You book an appointment and meet them at a location close to the Garretts green test centre. At £57 it was way cheaper than my local GP surgery and a few others I called. Their prices ranged from £90 - 110.
For the theory test I used the Dsa theory test book. Good for the background knowledge. I also got the hpz videos app on my Amazon kindle fire. That was superb for practising the test and improving on your knowledge from the book. It also has 42 practise videos for the hazard perception test. It even uses some of the same that I had on the test itself.
Next was driver training. I went with A1 based in Kitts Green. They are based two minutes from the test centre so can practise more difficult road layouts used by the examiners. They have a free assessment drive too. The trainers I had, Kevin and Lee are great guys too. Enough about them, I don’t want to advertise but I passed first time so they’re worth your consideration.
The cpc theory I found annoying. I couldn’t find any info on how to study for it. I just made sure I went over my original theory material and it was enough. Try looking on the net though for some random case study stuff I found, helped a little but being well versed in driver hours and vehicle restrictions was very useful in the test.
Cpc practical, module 4. Booked my training and test through A1 again. Make sure you take into consideration you may have to wait a while for an available test. For the theory tests I waited too long and had to wait 3 weeks for the first available. Book as soon as you can. For module 4 I also watched a video lesson that was posted on this forum and is still there I believe. Very handy to watch a couple of times before the training.
That’s it then. Just waiting for my license and the job search begins, wish me luck.
Any questionss just ask.
Dave.
