I Agree park nose in and reverse out in the morning.
At the end of the day reefer drivers are doing this same job as the rest of us.
Surley they can design the engine unit to be eith at the back or just behind the legs under the floor so its not right next to peoples bunks? Not sure what enginerring is involved but there is more than enough room to fit an engine unbder there, they do it with most vac tanks. Also are there no electric fridges? ive only ever seen derv ones

Because of this I started writing down the registration numbers of the two adjacent wagons. If I found my fridge turned off, I reported them.
And what does that prove?
I am not inciting people to this action, merely saying that inconsiderate drivers would only have themselves to blame.
As for health and safety. What about the health and safety of the driver denied his proper rest and all in his path the next day. The result of extreme action would be discipline for the driver not danger to the public because a spoiled load would not be accepted.
only have themselves to blame? you wouldnt be saying that if your child got food poisoning from food that defrosted and frozen again or chilled that had gone warm and bacteria had breeded in it. come on lads have some sense!
I always used to try park my reefer away from other drivers but sometimes its just not possible…

Having said that, if you park next to a running fridge you can hardly complain.
.
Salut, David.
I can see where this answer came from but I think its more from someone giving it the big bad trucker answer so should be taken with a pinch of salt
I would never go and plonk myself next to a truck in a parking area with my fridge running on full chat if his curtains were closed ,nor would I pull up beside someone with the curtains closed and leave my engine ticking over for 10 minutes , like some clowns do , by the way a bad place for this is in the laybys outside Wolves truckstop where the Irish boys are pulling up beside you all night looking for their " girlfriends"
If I am on frozen work and have to park near anyone I drop to -18 and switch it on continous run , so its not stop , start all the time, so the fridge just runs on tickover more or less all night , I find I sleep through this easy as you are not woken every 15 mins when fridge drops out of temp then chases its self back down to -25 in a fit of flat out running. Saying that I wouldnt do this parked in a situation where someone is beside me , only when in layby situation.
As for dropping trailer and fleeing scene for night thats asking for trouble , Alconbury have had trailers vanish out of the park when drivers have done this.
I have never seen or heard about fridges being turned off , I have heard alot of jokers say they did, " yea mate I cut his derv lines and in the morning he had ice cream running out the back doors ,hahaha" complete and utter rollox.

Do some drivers not care? recently I parked at the Swindon truckstop and a driver parked his truck opposite and then went off in a cab, his fridge ran on and off all night. I saw him arrive back in the morning, jump in his cab and leave.
Shortly afterwards I parked on a small industrial estate in Newark and was followed in by a tractor unit. I got talking to the driver who told me he had left his trailer at the truckstop with the fridge running and was going back to collect it at 5am. I asked him if he thought that was fair, to which he replied that he didn’t care if they cut his electrics to the fuel as long as he got a nights sleep.
I pulled reefers myself in the past and just switched off the fridge at night and just dropped the temperature for awhile first thing. I most certainly wouldn’t try to sleep with the unit running.
what do you think?
This is just the sort of SELFISH N.I.M.B.Y. topic that really me off.
Do you ever hear those of us who do nights on tramping complaining about not being able to sleep due to noise and commotion you DAY driver’s are making, shouting at each other at the top of your voices in truck stops while WE are trying to sleep?
NO.
So shut the up whinging and go and park elsewhere if it bothers you that much.
It really me off when I read about driver’s moaning that they can’t sleep in the truck at night because of this noise and that noise keeping them awake. WHY THE HAVE YOU COME INTO THE INDUSTRY TO DO NIGHT-OUT WORK IF YOU CAN’T SLEEP WITH NOISE ? ? ?
On tuesday night I parked in a layby on the A14 just outside Cambridge & got rocked to sleep by passing vehicles. I couldn’t really care. It does ■■■■ me off when I can’t here the quiet bits on a DVD, though.
Fridges don’t bother me - too long on diesel submarines mean I can sleep through most engine noises. What really grips my nadgers is the toe rag who comes past in his car late at night when I am in a layby, and thinks its funny to give me a long demonstration on how good his horn is.
Rob, Bertie is complaining about the driver parking his fridge up and then leaving it running all night whilst he was not with it, so it is ok for the fridge driver to have a nice peaceful sleep whilst the rest who were parked up first and so did not have the option of moving had no choice but to suffer the noise, plenty of places in swindonn to park it…

But hang on, regardless of what you’re driving, if you only live round the corner and there’s a truck-stop nearby, wouldn’t you do the same on a dodgy night out, ie. drop your trailer and go home in the unit ?
I know I would and have done so on numerous occasions.
Not with a fridge that is just inconsiderate, but a lot of drivers seem to be nowadays, and your telling me it would have been ok when i worked nights if i pulled up along side you at 2 am and left fridge running for an hour you would not have had a go at me, after all i was only doing my job.

You can park your fridge wherever you want. Pull up alongside me at 2am with it going on full tilt at -20C and it won’t bother me in the slightest. I’ve done fridges myself so I know the craic.
Bertie said that the driver dropped the fridge opposite - I don’t see how that’s been inconsiderate. He could have dropped it next to him.

“I cut his Derv lines” What a stupid boy, whats wrong with the on off switch
I’m a fridge puller but its very rare i have to night out with a full tube, But if i do have to leave the fridge on i park away from other trucks if i can and use laybys .
I keep away from truckstops and services because they stink, you also have the trucks starting up early mornings, the Macho guy who sits and rev 's his engine for no reason other than he still gets turned on by the sound and throb from it , and the late night early morning chatters.
At least i am used to the sound of the fridge and can sleep, But the bloke who dropped his trailer and shot off is a bit out of order, Somebody should have blocked him in and dissapeared for a few hours in the morning.
kitkat:
You could have asked him to mooooooooooooooove it
it only takes a bit of consideration for others. in truckstops i think most have designated areas for fridges and if i was parked there i would expect to hear the noise.
i parked on a industrail estate one night nice big estate and only me on it great i thinks… NO fridge driver parks right opposite me with the motor running so i sit there trying to watch telly but cant hear it so in the end I MOVE to the other end of the estate… now why didnt he park there instead of next to me.
there was no coldstores on the estate he parked there just for somewhere to park.
As a reefer driver I try to be considerate. However it sometimes aint just practical. We all have a job to do and as Rob K says ‘live and let live’ that is untill I find someone tampering with my fridge
Just remember when you are next buying your frozen goods in the supermarket, will they be ok■■? will some one have tampered with the fridge that deliverd em■■?
Give it a rest for christs sake, you lot want ya frozen food and its got to get there somehow.
So play nicely and dont tamper with an Innov@te Phil HanLey trailer cos it might just be mine
I have no qualms with reefer drivers as i did it for nigh on 10 years. At the end of the day they have a job to do.
What pee’s me off though is inconsiderate drivers, like the 4 Elldis drivers who parked next to me a few years back on the huge truck park at Kings Lynn.
Friday night and NO-ONE else on there, they park right at the side of me and proceeded to vac out their trucks, and shout to one another from their cabs.
Then they went off to the pub and came back later talking [well, shouting really]for about an hour.
Needless to say, when it was time to leave,I pulled up in front of them with the revs high,a couple of blasts on the horn and a few choice hand gestures when they opened their curtains to see what was going on.
Seems I opened up an hornets nest here, I thought that it was a reasonable question to ask and it did spark a bit of a debate.
I worked fridges (chilled goods only) for 8 years and was transport manager of a refridgerated transport company for 5 years so I know what the score is. I have been brought up to be considerate to others, something that seems to be lacking amongst some people.
As for the rant of ROBK, he seems to be having a bad day and is one of the reasons I left trucknet a few years ago. I mistakenly thought the forum was for debate not abuse !!!
Borderline personal attack. Tread VERY carefully. L.

If you can’t take the come back on your ill-thought out posts then you shouldn’t post them in the first place should you. Whilst you’ve succeeded in getting sympathy from the anti-fridge brigade on this thread, you’ve also received a number of ‘you should know better’ style responses -mine included - but you don’t want to look at that side of the coin do you.
Just another NIMBY .
Whilst I appreciate that this is a retaliation to the above, you need to be treading carefully for the same reason. L.

lots of people will have different views on this subject, personnally I park on ind eststes for a quityer life. Sometimes a reefer parks nearby, but that gives me some one to chat to or go to the pub with although most run the fridge on full to get the temp down and then turn it off through the night.
As for your quote above I can’t see where rob has abused you or anyone else, he’s just said his piece, joining in the debate, in his own straight forward way.
