I don’t have an allocated truck so I get to drive any vehicle available. Combined with working “lates” I often get into a truck just vacated by another driver. What I am finding lately is the number of drivers that like to drive in very, VERY hot cabs. I like to be comfortably warm, about 17/18 degress C, but I got into the truck today and the internal thermometer was close to 30 degrees C
Apart from sending me to sleep I start leaking, not something I like to do at work , so the question is:-
You may well find, that the previous driver is a smoker.
I frequently have my heating on shake-n-bake, and the window open to let the smoke out. With overnight temperatures round here set to drop to 15f (-10c) the blower is on bake the whole time now.
So, it usually balances, with open window, freezing blast, plus heater on roast, to about 15/16c…
I know its November but i,m still driving with the air con on as i hate being hot or even warm when im driving, most of the time when i get in a truck the heating is turned up and i have to alter it.
Usually have heat on about 75% on the dial, blower on 75% and drivers window open an inch or two. That keeps me toasted at this time of the year but stops the cab from getting stuffy. I particularly like to keep my feet toasted as my circulation is not as good as it used to be!

You’ve got it pretty mild then Alli Try Upstate NH one night last week, -50f,
The norm here when winter sets in is -30f
Usually up and down like a yo-yo, as the truck passes in and out of sunlight, the window is open and shut when I smoke, I take clothes on and off to avoid getting the cab full of muck and grease after a changeover/ self-tip (the major disadvantage to own-account container work ) and the effects of the last cup of coffee kick in/wear off (I shiver when I’m jaded…don’t ask me why… )…I also always have it set to come up through the floor once the screen has cleared of a morning, 'cos I get cold feet…
I’m the same in the house…drives Rikki nuts as he alternately roasts and shivers every time I attack the thermostat in the living room…
I’m the same as Jammy in that I’m still running the air con as I don’t like it warm. I ran the night heater for ten minutes yesterday afternoon for the first time since about February just to see if it was still working, which it was. I haven’t used it at night yet this winter even though where I was last week it was snowing and the temperature was in the minus figures at night.
You can with the old stuff though I run the night heater on a medium heat and then adjust the blowers depending on my mood, I do work in a t-shirt all year round though.
Can’t do that in the newer Volvos because once the normal heating reaches a certain temp the night heater will switch off
Same in the Stralis…automatically turns off when you start the engine!
Same here in the Actros. The “Auxillary” heater (as Mercedes call it) in the new models are integrated into the main heating system. And the warm air is blown out through the air vents on the dash rather than one port coming out of the old type night heater.
