Fridge job.

Next Monday and Friday, I’ve been booked in to work out of a well-known pork pie manufacturer in Leeming Bar to do trunks from there to (I assume) RDCs in and around Yorkshire.

Since this is a fridge job, I assume that the firm will provide the info for the temperature to be set at, and also some places may need a printout of the temperature of the goods.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Cheers .

In most places…

The fridges will be set by the shunter. You don’t touch them unless you’re reloading a different temperature for a backload. Just make sure it’s running at the required temperature and check it if you stop anywhere.

Ask, make sure they clearly spell out their policy.

It’ll be you they’ll throw under the bus if things go wrong.

I haven’t been asked for a printout in the last five years at any RDC but, that doesn’t mean they won’t ask for one.

Would agree with yourhavingalarf on the setting - always seem to be preset if they’re being loaded prior to you picking the trailer up. Usually only need to touch the controls to turn the fridge / freezer off if you’re empty, but a few places have rules about that too. I know one that won’t let you turn it off even when empty except in writing from a manager.

Printouts are rare these days it seems, most will maybe check the goods temp at receiving but a lot won’t even bother with that. There’s usually a few coloured buttons on the unit and one of those does printouts, just varies between units.

Do however make sure there’s diesel in the fridge tank. Red preferably, but white is fine if stuck. Don’t want it stopping part way to the drop.

Ask company to give you a quick rundown on how they work. They’ll soon tell you either the basics or “don’t touch” speech. Cover your tail but to be honest pretty straight forward. Keep an eye on temps and can be good practice to stop 10 mins fron RDC or where ever your going and have a quick look at temp just to be check its what it should be in case someone asks but like above can’t remrmber being asked for printout in years.

Dont forget when parking for your 45 min break to look for the cab with closed curtains and has worked nights and then park next to him. Also ensure that your fridge is on full throttle as Im sure the night driver would love to hear the dulcite tones of a motor.
A bit like the Fannys in the Scannys (King of the Road :unamused: ) that rev the nuts of their motor to let everybody know the village idiot has arrived.

In the heatwave we are having at the moment, you are guaranteed for a roaring fridge motor at fair number of decibels!

Totally agree. We should all collectively stop buying food, that’d sort them bloody fridges out.

Fridges are easy, if you want to change a temperature just scroll up or down and press =.
Bottom switch turns it on and off. You might need to turn it off while being tipped. Some want it on and some want it off.

Check temps when you hook into / collect the fridge - make sure the paperwork and the fridge temps match don’t leave untill they do , go as far up the chain as you have to .
Make sure the fridge has fuel - I don’t like to leave without filling the tank - your company will have a policy on this - follow it .
Check the temps before delivery to make sure they are right / within range .
Ask before turning the fridge off at delivery point . They all have their own policy - some want it off , some want it on . Some will reject it if you turn the fridge off and they want it on .
Almost 20 years of fridge work and I don’t ever remember being asked for a print out .
Park where you like - ask if they want to buy the load when they ask if your turning the fridge off / tell them you’ll take cash when they say they will .lol

Wake me up by parking next to me and I’ll mess with the settings on the fridge!

I know. It’s why i wrote it

Reality is when my head hits the pillow I’m gone until my alarm wakes me up and even then that’s not 100% guaranteed to wake me up lol

No you won’t

Yes I started one morning at 4 am from my depot , did drops round n/ east , went to p/ p to collect ( miles to early ) and finally got loaded 8 hrs later , got out of there and managed to get to leeming bar srvs ( old one ) , company sent two poles up who took 2 1/2 hrs to get there ( then wanted a McDonald’s , told to zb drive :smiling_imp: ) , finally booked off midnight :smiling_imp: , 20 hrs after starting :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
Nb p/p place said I could stop on bay for hour no problem and make 8 hrs up to 9 hr daily rest , company said no you must be recovered :unamused: :smiling_imp:
They give you a free pack of pork pies , put them in fridge , not in cab as you’ll get bored , eat one , then 2 , then 3 and feel sick and never eat a pork pie again :frowning:

You can’t beat a good stream of consciousness post.

No you won’t

I don’t try to park next to ANY other truck in services etc when my fridge is running but facts are USUALLY it’s unavoidable.

But if I see a driver turn fridge off on purpose he’s gonna wake up with crowd round him,
FACT!!!

beefy4605:
Make sure the fridge has fuel

Definitely this. At the moment fridges will be walloping through fuel and lots of fridge drivers will leave it empty for the next bloke to fill up. Some have a gauge on the tank, others the gauge is accessed via the fridge control panel.

Another prick who doesn’t possess a brain capable of thinking that maybe the stuff on the back is what their missus will end up buying.
