I think the fridges are called GenSet’s by guys on containers. Try searching for them.
Or maybe Russells, a firm who deal with fridge containers.
Once again another MikeC area of expertise and another splendid diary for the noobs to see and olds to revisit … viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34937&p=373820&hilit=+diary+fridge+seaforth#p373820
Once again Mike, you’re welcome
We must discuss my commission
The container is an insulated box with a refrigeration system built in.
The genset is exactly what it says, a diesel generator to create electricity so the fridge works.
Noisy buggers too, and normally attach to the top of the container so you can’t reach the noisy gits to turn them off, which is a git to sleep but gets you shouted at on the woolwich ferry
the fridge container is called a reefer box, the genset is the power unit to make it work
Seen a few 45’ ECS and the like reefer boxes with the same sort of Thermo King fridge unit on the front as normal fridge trailers.
last company i worked for on containers specialised on gensets.
we had 45 skells, and the most common set up was the genset built onto a frame at the front of the skell, so that you
could carry standard 40ft and 20ft boxes, which were either frozen or chilled. the boxes would have been pre set when loaded,
and when we finally loaded them at the dock in the uk, we’d plug the power lead in, fire up the genset and check the temps
were right, and off you go. if you had a longer run, you may have a night out, on route, and man some of the older gensets were bloody noisy. i got used to it in the end, (helped we got extra cash for a genset job) but when parking up overnight, i’d always look for the quietest part of the truckstop, (if poss) so as not to disturb other drivers.
not so bad in the winter, as there was another way to deal with noisy gensets at night
