Taunton kicks off with the early event at the Racecourse this Saturday October 29th which is only £6 per head and that includes the Wurzels
Next weekend there is a choice of firework events, starting on Friday 4th at Taunton RFC then there are four on Saturday 5th that I know of,Hatch Beauchamp ,The Staplegrove Scouts, ,Milverton Cricket Club, and Oake Manor Golf Club. I don’t know of any others but if you do please share by posting it in our events section.
Why are people quoting old firework display adverts?
So that those of us with time machines can go back and watch the fireworks, silly.

So you can book early for next year!
I was travelling up Stokenchurch Hill M40 about 11am when I noticed a Samworth artic tailgating a plain white one travelling down. I thought their artics would be the last to do that inlight of whats happened…
Saw trucks up the arse of one another all day…It’s never gonna change.

It may be relevant in any investigations, if there wasn’t a bonfire at the Taunton RFC, how could that be to blame?

The smoke that comes from these modern fireworks is horrendous. I heard an eye witness on the radio who described it ‘just as though someone had thrown white emulsion over his windscreen’.

Still drivers tailgating on the M5 yesterday afternoon, some people never learn!Thats because I am invincible and it will never happen to me
That’s right - accidents only happen to other people!!!
Remember though!!! YOU ARE OTHER PEOPLE to everyone else!!

I came across a similar hazard years ago just as the M5 meets the M6 J8, underneath the motorway
here is a railway line or even a goods yard, hadn’t took much notice before. I was in the middle lane just about to pass another artic and noticed what seemed like thick mist but my first thought made me think it was steam and was rising from the railway below, both vehicles entered this alongside each other and of course thinking it was just a thin vapour trail then we would quickly pass through it. I was quickly shocked to discover this stuff was like a solid wall and covered the motorway lanes much more than first appeared, everything around the cab was white and I couldn’t see any further than the windscreen.
I came off the throttle but didn’t want to brake too much I probably touched them gently, one reason so others behind might see my lights and secondly I didn’t have a clue what might suddenly appear in front, after what seemed like ages but could only have been seconds we emerged into the clear, I looked over to the left and the other motor was still inline with me, the driver also looked my way and mouthed the words ‘F… Hell’. I wasn’t the only one that got the fright of my life then! This was nothing like even the thickest fog and I’ve never driven through anything like it before or since and I wondered later if it had caused an accident behind us, awful experience and makes me shudder just recalling it. I now in my present job have experience of smoke conditions from different flammable materials, some are like a thin mist and others are like a thick black curtain where you can’t see your hand infront of your face.
If the drivers on the M5, car or truck had driven into a similar bank of ‘smog’ (easily caused by fireworks plus weather conditions) then it would only have needed one or two to have panicked and maybe done the wrong thing, which may even have been traffic not involved in the actual collision but through their actions the concertina effect leading to this disastrous outcome. Maybe we will never know for sure but the over crowded roads we have today won’t help in avoiding these types of terrible events in the future.
Take it easy out their guys, sorry if my two posts on here have been a little long. Franky.

found out today that one of the samway drivers was covering for the normal driver who was having a couple of days off, neadless to say the normal driver is feeling guilty for having the time off, he’s been told by friends (and please don’t think i am being insensitive) that it wasn’t his time to go. when your numbers called its called and it wasn’t his turn…
Yep can agree with that or that bullet didnt have his /her name on it
We may never know what caused this but RIP to all that lost there lives
But hope that the survivors can move on & this does not haunt them too much my thought go out to them just as much if not more
i read the bit in the sun about kane 11,son of kye the samworths driver, said ,im the man of the house now,ive got to step up,also read the bit wrote by jessicca, both dads have left a wonderfull legacy in those two youngsters, just a real shame there not around to see them grow up r.i.p

Franky that is uncanny. My colleague used those exact words describing his experience.
Another recollection I have is very few people had turned hazard lights on, normally you can see load of 4 ways on in the build up to the obstruction. This time I think I was one of only 3 that I recall having turned on before stopping suggesting that the speed of vision loss was very unusual.
I also wonder if the geography may have been a contributor as the carriageway is above the level of the surrounding area with banks and trees/shrubs along the embankment, maybe combining with a “perfect storm” of atmospheric/ meteorological factors.
Letter in the Daily Mail today. All HGV’s should travel at 50 mph in the left hand lane on DC’s and motorways. Brilliant idea I thought, that way we can stop the cars getting on and those that slip through net will not be able to leave.

He also claimed in his letter that he regulary gets overtaken by lorries doing 70mph.
apologies for my late response ive just been going over older threads, just to put a bit of background to my apparently ignorant comment about straightening up a potential jacknife, obviously it all comes down to the circumstances and each situation is different, but just as an example, i was pulling a bdouble one night with a very light lead trailer and fully laden tag trailer, not my decision, and certaintly not my preference, it just so happened that that was how it had to be taken and coming off a hill in the wet i touched the brakes when maybe that wasnt the best time to do so and i could not only feel the loss of traction but one quick look behind me i could see the whole show starting to kink out of shape, so i gave it some boot to straighten it up. thats why i posted the comment i posted earlier in the thread.
