During my time as a night driver I’ve noticed that friday morning rush hour is quite calm and the roads are usually clearer and faster than other days of the week.
Any idea why this is? Surely we can’t be back to 4 day weeks.
Been like this for years, when I was doing Silvertown everyday, coming down M1-M25-M11 it was always so much quieter and quicker on a Friday, if I overlay getting out was a completely different story. Have noticed though that since the new year the roads in general seem a lot quieter than normal.
I also notice this on my way to work on Friday mornings. I don’t know the exact reason but I guess some people leave their cars at home so they can go straight to the boozer once they clock off on Friday afternoons.

I did wonder this. I drive the M4 eastbound and hit Reading at rush hour. On friday it is so much faster. Surely they can’t all be taking the train so they can have a drink in London though …
by Friday most people have gotten to work
so the next move is getting home on Friday afternoon

When i used to catch the train to London for building work. The train was most packed on a Friday morning with most of the talking people on the carriage discussing the drinking to be done in the nighttime.
Hell I even used to do it in the “good ole days” of construction.
My missus still does it to this day.

Roads have been usually clear Fridays for some years, noticed it mostly in the last 10 to 15 years, various reasons.
All change come midday though, Lemming mentality takes over, rushing pushing and getting nowhere fast driving blindly nose to tail into the inevitable crashes.
I hate being on the major routes leaving large urban areas on Friday afternoons, similarly avoid those same routes Sunday afternoons if possible when the lemmings return, to/from the London hell hole being the main one.
Try and get a room to stay in on a thursday night especially around london - its hard to find them because many work late thursday and start early friday so they can get an early friday getaway
