DELIVERIES to supermarkets in the weeks leading up to Christmas could be hit by an indefinite strike by lorry drivers.
About half a million drivers belonging to five trade unions are planning to stop work at 21.30 on December 13 to protest over pay.
They are planning to block access to supermarket and hypermarket depots to prevent food getting on to the shelves in time for the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Auchan and Carrefour are likely to be the most targeted.
The head of the CGT-Transport union, Richard Jaubert, said no decision had been taken yet about whether to block access to fuel depots as well.
According to the unions, lorry driver salaries have not risen in two years - €1,300 gross per month for new recruits.
They want at least €10 an hour, a 13th month of pay each year and standard health cover for all.
With all their sticking together over the years, they don’t seem to have done very well for themselves €1300 a month before deductions is about 1/2 of what I earn.
i am shocked to see 1300 euro pm as their wages,i find it hard to believe.
they must spend that on calvados in their daily 2 hour lunchbreak.i do like the way they stick together though, even if i been stuck in it a few times.
325 euro oer week, impossible to live on in france or anywhere in europe for that matter.
the spanish have been getting 600 per week for international work,at least this is what i am led to believe, correct me if i am wrong vascoingles.
even in ireland where the eastern europeans have ruined the job,the wages average out more then that.
just my penny worth.
So poor little Pierre might not have a poulet on " le table de Noel"(excuse my French)tough ■■■■■.
Like has been said already, i grudgingly admire them- “they stick together” but at the end of the day they are a bunch of ■■■■■ imo.
they can do what they like to the supermarkets in my oppinion, i just hope they will still deliver food to the poor imigrants in calais. i,d hate for them to arrive in treasure island with malnutrition. poor[zb] i am starting a campain among truckers to send christmas pacages to these poor souls, if you have any household waste you dont want please get intouch.
You can nearly guarantee it wont stop at supermarkets, if they start blocking fuel pumps it could affect traffic to the uk and no doubt the paeges will be blocked to trucks !
Will be interested to see what happens… If they affect the Ferries / Tunnel
perhaps we should chuck a few trucks across the entrance to the Dock in
Dover… Maek life interesting… If we are going to get stuffed lets get
a little revenge… ■■
There be no problem in Dover, it will be blocked anyway with all the Commie’s going back out ? doing all the last minute Christmas
deliveries to Europe.
