Carryfast, there is tons of information about calibers, don’t mix police and military arms needs.
That seems to be the bit where you’re confusing taking a police type gun to a military type gunfight which our police chief is ( rightly ) referring to.IE he wants something that’s more than a match for an AK in just the same way that the army were using FN’s on the streets of Ireland to face Armalites etc ( or ironically in that case more often kids chucking stones and maybe a few small fire bombs ).

The match for AK is M16/HK G35/SIG550 etc. most important is ammo, not caliber. Military is restricted by Hague convention, police not.

Carryfast, you don’t help yourself do you chap? Firearms expert now! This is comedy gold
You do make me laugh
I’ve never been shot thank goodness, but I would imagine if you were shot by a 5.5 as you call it, your first reaction wouldn’t be to call it a “toy”. I’d imagine searing agony, splintered bones, ruptures organs or a mess in the head. Not much of a toy. I wouldn’t market it to kids for Christmas really.
Suggest you check out the edited links which I’ve posted above.Although the Jihadists obviously won’t like the reference to the performance of the 5.56 v a pig at even close range and the similarities in pig anatomy to that of humans. Bearing in mind that pigs aren’t going to be shooting back with AK’s.
I’ve just dipped back into this cheery thread and last thing I said was we need to invest in correct home security, that type of thingy. Now it’s discussing calibres and shooting pigs. Do you know something I don’t?! Is it world war 3 outside now, I haven’t checked
You’re a one for challenging people for coming up with a solution rather than dilly dally. It’s a big enough job as an electorate to persuade the powers that be to take home security more seriously than they are and restrict the borders yet alone petition as a trucknet group to change the calibres they use and the burst automatic rifles they are equipped with to fire them. If we do though, I’ll put you forward as club rep
"Dear Dave and relevant field appointee Teresa, representative from the MOD and “CC” the commander in chief SAS (good morning Sirs and ladies)
Our good selves at trucknet have given consideration to the calibre of choice available to our armed response units and army personnel. On recommendation from our learned sir, Carryfast we make the following proposals…"

As I said NATO obviously decided that the FN was the right match for the AK.IE ‘Right arm of the free world’ literally. In which to bring that up to date seems like the MP10 308 is the way to go.While no one said that the 7.62 also can’t be ‘modified’ for police use.Realistically why not just give the law the choice and let them decide because they are the ones using them and in the firing line. While that single shot that tears the Jihadist apart at a range which the Jihadist can’t hit back might be the only shot he gets.

Oh God, he’s lost it.
Please tell me you’re not in a basement, cammo creamed up in pattern 58 webbing you bought off the internet clutching a “BB” AR15 with grenade launcher, reading 1984, endless tv screens around you screening world news.

7.62 was a norm 40 years ago, not today, it total overkill caliber for police, heavy, bigger recoil, less bullets in magazine, greater penetration which in city is dangerous etc. AR’s chambered in 5.56 can be set up for the specific job because is versatile system.
This 5.56(in link) will do all the job that has to be done by CT police, no need for change, money could be better spend. This cartridge in HK 416 is better way to go all around then MP10. Counter Terrorism Command uses HK G36 which is great choice, no need of change, only better ammo if needed. youtube.com/watch?v=Af5Z-0yALr8
I’m thinking of an Israeli Military Industries Desert Eagle semi automatic in .50 cal for my home defence and a Barrett M82 for “beyond my lawn” defence.
Discuss
I’m thinking the Desert Eagle’s gas blow back design maybe of use if the errant whips sand in my face from his flip flops in an attempt to “jam up” my sidearm.
I don’t want pesky calibres arguments getting in the way of an efficient bagging. The Barret maybe a tad strong on the alcohol stakes for “just beyond my lawn” but the next door neighbour can swivel if I take out one of his garden nomes as he’s a right prick. He still hasn’t given back my Wife’s fondue set.
(Also can swivel is your next door neighbour 3 counties away when the round arrives and takes out the model railway in his garden shed. Bloody small print eh)

As I said I’m no expert but I’ve got no objection to our local taxes paying for whatever ‘choice’ ‘our police’ ‘not me’ prefers. In which case our ‘police chief’ has stated that ‘he’ isn’t happy with putting ‘his’ armed response up against AK’s with 5.56 weapons because ‘he’ thinks they aren’t up to the job v that type of opposition. In which case there’s no reason as to why they shouldn’t have the ‘choice’ of something like the MP10 308 ‘if’ ‘they’ think it’s the right weapon for the job.Bearing in mind the level of the threat and the common use of similar firepower against the relatively lower threat level of Northern Ireland.

I’d suggest you direct your sarcasm and Corbyn type sentiments to our chief of police who obviously ( rightly ) doesn’t agree with you ( or Corbyn ).

Excuse me, Corbyn! Wash your mouth out sir. We need to hammer this out when we submit our trucknet report. We can’t be seen to disagree, need to show solidarity! Don’t know why the Po are winging about “guns n ammo” when they’ve not even been financed the men to actually fire them.
Oh wait, we still have blunket bobbies. That’s right, forgot that.

Maybe because they can put with the wage and job cuts but being given a pea shooter to take on a load of Jihadists armed with AK’s is just taking the pish.
It’s amazing the amount of venom that’s in the Corbyn social media camp here. I’d say it’s going through an upheaval struggling to establish some kind of British ■■■■ party the way it’s been going on.
“Newspeak” “1984” and “we tell you what to think” abounds.
If it were possible for Labour become even less electable over the past few days - it’s now happened.
Corbyn appears to have cocked it up the same as Footy did when Argentina invaded the Falklands… Today’s news only seemed to be worried about the issue of Ken being forced to apologise over some load of ■■■■■■■■ rather than listen to what Ken has been saying about the current issues. Some backbench issues with the ‘D’ word - doesn’t constitute that, and need not have been made “Newsworthy”.
Meanwhile, in Syria - it’s obvious what is needed.
Russia will veto any UN resolution that does not have a cast-iron guarantee not to attack Assad’s forces. All Cameron needs to do to get a UN resolution he needs therefore - is drop this crap about wanting “regime change” in Syria Will he do it? - Watch this space…
Labour will block any resolution to act in Syria that does NOT include “removing Assad from Power”. At least that’s what the Corbynites think. The rest of the sensible backbenchers will vote for a more sensible approach, which is all Russia want.
Cameron therefore, only has to sell it to his own party - and rely on Labour rebels to top up on.
It was Blair’s bull last time around that got us embroiled with a war of “Regime Change” instead of a war of “kill all enemy and leave” or “take over the whole damned country and stay”.
I can’t believe the wider Labour party are going to insist that one of the most serious balls-ups of history - need be repeated… Surely!?

The real questions being, like Afghanistan, what difference will military action in Syria make to the fact that the Jihadist threat here is mostly,if not all,a result of our immigration/citizenship policies. In addition to the fact that it’s base is in the untouched Islamic heartlands of Iran,Pakistan and Saudi. While that threat is probably far larger than either the naive west,or even Russia, would like to think because of the Jihadist tactic of deception. It’s a reasonable bet that no Labour or Con MP will ask those inconvenient questions.
What’s going on with airplane bomb threats? Yesterday 2 French planes in US, before that a German one, this morning a plane flying from Poland to Egypt landed in Bulgaria because of bomb threat. All of the above planes are taking off from safe countries, why the hell is this panic and fear that someone might smuggled a bomb on board.
We need to calm down.

I don’t think it’s so much “Sharm el Sheik” that has shown to have serious security laxes…
What if it’s EVERY airport with any cultural connection to ISIS? - If we REALLY wanted to over-react in the west - we’d not so much close the EU borders to them - we’d want to close THEIR borders to US.
We’ve already got runaway Jihadi brides indirecting out there via Turkey - the same country they are using to come the other way.
A crackdown on Turkish traffic in particular would seem to make a whole lot more sense this week than it did this time last week.
