I bet there’s some old Timers sitting at home. Going 3 days wait to cross the channel, and no toilets, In the oldern days a 3/5 day wait was a good day. Toilets were always behind a bush or under the trailer. Drivers today have it to easy.
I imagine most of the lorries there are from the EU, as most British drivers would have turned round and gone back to the yard.
I fail to see how it is our responsibility to feed and water these drivers. They have been locked out of the EU…by the EU in some sort of political stunt to show “this is what it will be like after Brexit”. The EU should provide the funding to facilitate this.
If the Virus can mutate in Kent, It can mutate anywhere else. This is just being used to push an agenda
You wouldn’t look after a neighbours dog as a favour and expect to be paying for its upkeep. (Not calling them Dogs…just a metaphor before someone plays the racist card).
No funding…well you better open the border then and let them back as you are causing your people suffering…Any law breaking by the drivers…expect to foot the bill for that as well. You want them to have a negative test before returning…at £115 per test…crack on.
Yes they have exercised their right to close the border…just like we Brits wanted…But then you must have a system to return your citizens safely. Like the Government should be moving mountains to return any Brits stuck on the other side for Christmas.
But instead we Brits are the ones painted in the light that we are causing the suffering to these people. British based Drivers should be directed “here” if stuck there where there should be purpose built facilities and free food and water on offer…everyone else directed “here” where the facilities on offer are paid for by the EU…No funding…no facilities.
If they want to play stupid games…instead of rolling over and taking it as we have done for so long…play stupid games back.
Instead its been left to some very nice charitable people to feed/water these poeple.

Aren’t the French just exercising their sovereign right to control their own border though?
There’s a big difference between controlling borders and closing borders out of spite.
However, for us it may well turn out to be good news. Three of the Polish drivers who I work with, who are now unable to get home for Christmas, do not plan to come back when they do eventually manage to get home for fear of this happening again in the future.

Yep.Selectively closing borders out of spite.
No problem France to UK only UK to France.
No closure of the Swiss border.Or Serbia border or Belorus border.

“Closing borders out of spite”?
Over 40 countries closed entry to those from the UK.
Now the French and some others are reopening the border to those with clear tests.
Are those who aren’t doing so more “spiteful” then?

And in other news Kent council took the opportunity to issue parking tickets to trucks exceeding the parking limits in lay-byes.I really do hope this isn’t true…if it is then this country is screwed beyond help.
Same here mate, I kinda thought/hoped he was joking, so I didn’t comment.
There are no words to describe how out of touch and out of order these absolute ■■■■ s are, concerning truck parking…even in normal times.
I hope these officials running these councils and the like, die a horrible death, I personally hate them and their pomposity.

When UK drivers are blocked in a European or other country don’t we expect them to be treated reasonably? Don’t we expect a basic level of facilities to be provided?
We certainly aren’t doing that here.
If you ever find yourself in a depot where you are told to park somewhere but are refused even basic toilet facilities whose fault is that? Is it yours for daring to deliver food or goods there?
Some sensible posts on this thread, but the level of selfish and short term nastiness of others disgusts me.
How some calling themselves drivers can be so callous towards other drivers, caught in a bad situation through no fault of their own leaves me cold.

As already pointed out the others aren’t blocking freight, most of these drivers won’t get out of their cab in France so explain what threat they pose. The virus is already in Europe Belgium had a case in November yet that border is still open

Certainly, and i would expect that they are treat reasonably, however the reason they are trapped here is because of France, which no doubt would have had to have the green light from the EUC to do it, therefore should be their responsibility to ensure the funding is available to get the adequate facilities to accommodate them.
It would be unreasonable to think there is not going to be disruptions/lack of facilities ect when overnight France decides to shut the border trapping thousands of EU drivers here.
I fail to see how we are getting the blame for the conditions. There are not toilets/food facilities every 100 meters on any other stretch of the UK motorways.

Yes, it’s being done through spite. The French know that the danger from allowing these trucks to spend 40 minutes transiting France is minuscule. They are preventing these drivers from being with their families in order to “punish” the UK by creating negative publicity when the drivers affected are in fact France’s fellow eu nationals.
De Gaulle hated the Brits - despite us giving him sanctuary in London before helping to free his country with the loss of 2000 lives and thousands injured.
Macron is no different - has the same air about him.
Well, this overtly political stunt has won him no favours - the EU commission has smacked his legs for him, probably like his history teacher did
Sympathy to drivers caught up in this problem. I hope that everyonr gets home for Christmas. I suppose that the French did the right thing in the face of evidence about new covid. Maybe we should have acted more promptly in our earlier responses. Borders will always be problematic unless unions like the ones we used to have are agreed.

I read that post and without looking at the username I knew it was yours.
Just take your ‘■■■■■■ off remainer pro EU head’ off for a minute,.and your preoccupation with Covid,.and get real.
The fanatical EU are chucking their toys out of the pram, it has the fat end of f all to do with Covid at the best, or jumping in the Covid bandwagon and using it to their advantage at the worst…ie REVENGE BY POLITICS.
As I’ve said before,.WHEN it is proven that the UK is much better off without these parasites, it will start a knock on effect to other EU countries to get the ■■■■ out of it.
As I’ve said to you before they’re ■■■■■■■■ themselves.
As Harry said …SPITE .

The French said from the word Go that they intended to close the border for 48 hours. What is closing a border for 48 hours going to do against Covid? It’s got nothing to do with controlling a virus, the intention from the outset was to ensure that eastern European drivers couldn’t get home for Christmas. Presumably they imagined that these drivers would blame the UK for the situation.

French Government- closes border
Brexiteers- ‘DISGUSTING behaviour by french, they shouldn’t be able to close their borders. They need to be stopped, cheese eating surrender monkeys. Have they forgotten who single handedly saved them in WW2’
I really do feel for the guys stuck there regards welfare facilities and thought of not getting home for xmas. The one thing I note is the sympathy card played regards for and drink. I tramp now and I’m sure if I was holed up for 2 days there are more than enough provisions on board to get by. These European guys carry far more than me so is it all real or just a bit of poor me gesturing
