Freeview for laptop

Saaamon:
bbc iplayer, 4od, itv player, are all good websites. tvcatchup.com/, never used this but should imagine its good.

you do realise you need a decent internet connection to use all of them?

why not get laptop preload films onto it ready to be watched while ur away?

i have done but i really like the idea of freeview on tv just bought a hauppage wintv dvb reciever for my laptop just deciding whether or not to get an omnimax multi directional £80 or a maplin 12/24v outdoor aerial £40 ish but im assuming you get what you pay for. but on the omnimax i have this option : Available in 12/12v d.c (B2344) or 12/24v d.c/230v a.c (B2345) versions what does this mean?

Is a dongle not good enough? I’ve used them in the past on a dongle and they’ve been alrite.

an expensive way to watch tv IMO.

Got a frreview dongle off ebay for £15 and a portable aerial from argos works ok for me but sometimes a bit time consuming to tune.

Spose so. What do you do for a tv?

Freesat, takes a bit of fiddling to find the right satellite but once you get the knack of it you can have it attached to the cab and tuned in within a couple of minutes. I tried freeview but I spent more time outside the cab trying to sort out the aerial than actually watching tv, also needed to retune everytime I stopped somewhere  seems one place had different freeview settings to another places

truckertone out of interest what setup have you got for your laptop?

it’s a tevion 6430 dongle from aldi, probably cost about £25 ( i cant really remember), i’ve had it 2 or 3 yrs, don’t use it much as i dont stay away nowadays, it comes with its own little aeriel which opens up into a V shape… and a remote control.

I have the old Hauppauge WinTV USB2 (really old) and I bought a powered ariel from B&M’s which is really good, rarely plug it in to be honest, but it’s mains only, so have to plug the inverter in if it needs powering.

Still some places that I can’t get TV, but there’s some places I can’t get Radio 2 or a mobile phone signal too.

well i have just bought a haupauge wintv nova t freeview dongle and a maxiview omnidirectional aerial with base for £100 when i recieve it i shall review it a tell you my findings! thanks for all your help

the reason i said ebay is i just watched a tv with built in freeview and dvd player go for less than £80 also they have truck aeriels too for anywhere from £10 im very sure you could of got a better deal

I use one of these
maplin.co.uk/9-inch-portable … een-221724

Tv freeview and dvd in one small unit works perfect every time
Didnt pay that much for it though as when I went in the shop it was labeled up for £69 (this was the price of the portable DVD players) thought Id try my luck and took it to the checkout and got charged the £69 if I had any sense I would have gone back and got the rest of them at that price
After Id payed for it I did point it out to them, they pretty quickly sorted it out

Even when I had a problem with the volume control they swapped it for a brand new one with a further 12 months gaurantee no questions asked!
The aerial I use is an image directional one (caravan type) just before I park up I check wich way the aerials are pointing on the houses I pass then point mine in the same direction

I have a freeview dongle - sourced from Aldi about four years ago,. cost about £20 - came with powered and non-powered aerials and a remote - and works reasonably well.

Re-tuning is a bit of a faff.

although i paid over the odds for the aerial its perfect no retuning needed picked up signal every where i went perfect signal ! if you have the money to buy decent stuff then dont waste time on cheaper product that you will have to replace…the booster for the aerial is powered by a 12v cigarette socket and my laptop the same i have tried them both on at the same time as im sceptical of how it will affect the battery any ideas on how long i can use them both togehter without draining the batt?
